Police arraign two lawyers over forgery of dead man’s will

The police in Edo State have arraigned two lawyers and a 50-year-old man before an Oredo Magistrate Court in Benin for alleged conspiracy and forgery of a dead man’s will.

According to the prosecution, the accused, Mr Samuel Urhoghide, 75; Mrs Mercy Sheidum, 46 and Jona Sojah, 50, allegedly forged the will of one late Engineer Kolawole Sheidum in 1997 at the Murtala Mohammed Way, in the state capital, claiming that the legal document was made by the deceased.

The prosecution told the court that the second accused was also a wife to the late man while the third accused was his co-worker.

It added that the offences contravened sections 516 and 467(2)(f) of the Criminal Code.

But the accused pleaded not guilty to the two counts levelled against them.

The trial Chief Magistrate, Mr Fred Igbinosa, however, granted the two legal practitioners bail on the ground of self-recognition.

The third accused was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety while the case was adjourned till November 2.
