Odemwingie injured as Stoke beat Manchester City

Super Eagles striker, Osaze Odemwingie, went out injured as his team Stoke City stunned reigning EPL champions Manchester City by beating them 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Odemwingie was brought in the second half to add flair to Stoke’s frontline after surviving the onslaught from the Citizens in the first half. The Nigerian did try his bit as Stoke romped into the lead in the 58th minute through Senegalese striker Mame Biram Diouf.

Despite the quality available in the Manchester City team, Stoke who also paraded another Nigerian Victor Moses were able to hold on for a famous win that shoots them up the ladder on the EPL standings. Incidentally, neither Moses nor Odemwingie has been invited for the next set of matches for the Super Eagles.

While it was a sweet victory for Moses and Odemwingie, it wasn’t the same for the duo of Victor Anichebe and Brown Ideye as their team West Brom was hammered by Swansea City 3-0. At the St. James Park, there was a six-goal thriller as Newcastle United and Crystal United played out a pulsating 3-3 draw. It was Wilfred Zaha who stole a vital point for Palace with his extra time equaliser. Earlier in the day, Manchester United continued their poor start to the season as they could only manage a 0-0 draw against lowly rated Burnley.

The latest result means new Coach Louis Van Gaal is yet to win any match in England since taking the reins at Manchester United.
