Nigerian Doctors vow to continue strike

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, on Saturday vowed not to resume talks with the government until the government unconditionally reverse the sack of 16, 000 resident doctors nationwide.

Meanwhile, the doctors have warned that the sacking of over 16, 000 resident doctors could further escalate the Ebola scourge as majority of those working on the case management, monitoring and survelliance team were resident doctors.

Giving the condition at a press briefing in Lagos, the Chairman, Lagos branch of NMA, Dr Tope Ojo said all attempts by government to divide the NMA would be resisted by the association.

“This sack action must have proven the unrepentant hatred of Mr. President and the federal government for doctors, considering that since this current regime, several unions generally have embarked on industrial actions for even longer periods, that witnessed several failed negotiations too, before eventual resolution and same punitive actions were never applied.

  1. They are no longer relevant. They are not on strike after all. Now they simply stay in their respective personal shacks called hospitals and this is what has being going on. This is what has being going on. The doctors simply put in few hours and attention in public hospitals where they drop in after long hours in their so called private business.Yet they still receive fat salaries. In some places they hardly attend to patients in public hospitals and now they are behaving like God .Greedy, heartless and insensitive folks who have turned the profession into something in the mould of kabu kabu trade. It is sad and a shame.May God help us in this country.Doctors ko! Doctors Ni!
