10 confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria, 2 deaths

The Federal Government has confirmed another Ebola case in Lagos bringing the total number of Ebola Virus Disease victims to 10, even as 177 primary and secondary contacts of the index case have been placed under surveillance or isolation.

At a world media briefing in Abuja Monday, the Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu said of these 10 cases, 2 have died (the Liberian American and the Nigerian nurse) while 8 are alive and currently on treatment.

This is the situation 22 days since the dreaded EVD first landed in Nigeria.

At the sub regional level, the Ebola Virus Disease was discussed as a substantive agenda during the Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra Ghana.

Chukwu said Nigeria, as usual, played its leading, pioneering and compassionate role during the Summit with the first and only donation of USD3.5 million humanitarian and capacity building aid to the three affected countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the West African Health Organization (WAHO), and the ECOWAS Ebola Fund.

  1. Honestly, our Minister of health is the most foolish Minister ever seen..... Nigeria shares no border with Siera lone,Guinue and Liberia....This Man should have known from the onset that the only way this deadly virus will enter Nigeria very fast is through inter country flights......He shoudl have taken measures to either ban flights coming from the affected countries or to check people coming into Nigeria from these affected countries......He never did it till that Bastard from Liberia purposely entered Nigeria to circulate this virus....I even doubt if this Minister is really an igbo Man because his brain is very dull to think ahead for the betterment of the people.

    2. our minister of health is the minister of doctors,we in the health sector who have worked in some of this countries as volunteers have been on the watch, but who cares in the ministry of health here in Nigeria, they are not accessible, at our land borders rather than government officials screening people for ebola the so-called health team and immigration officials are busy collecting #100 each,no one to monitor the strict compliance of ebola screening of in-bound travelers at seme and idi iroko borders , rather they are busy causing disharmony in the hospitals by not finding a lasting solution to our health sector problems , health workers are not trained except fellow doctors, because they believed they know it all and others are nobody. God help Nigeria ,God help president Jonathan to choose the right people to work with
