Omisore vows to reverse Osun schools merger

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has condemned the merger of schools in the state, which is part of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration’s reclassification policy, saying he would reverse it if elected governor of the state on August 9.

This was part of the promises Omisore made to the people of Ikirun in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state on Saturday during his campaign rally which took place on Saturday in Ikirun town and other villages in the local government area.

Omisore told the cheering crowd that the policy had led to several problems that were distracting pupils from learning properly, and added that the new uniform introduced by the state government had denied tailors and cloth sellers of their means of livelihood.

He said, “If I’m elected the governor of this state, the schools that were merged would be returned to their owners, so that every school can have its unique identity. We will cancel the uniform they introduced; every school will have its own uniform as it used to be.

“We will stop the present situation where Aregbesola’s government is the tailor sewing school uniform for everybody, thereby denying all tailors in this state of their regular jobs and making life difficult for cloth sellers.”

Omisore also promised student of higher institutions in the state that his government would ensure that there be no more unnecessary closures of their schools, adding that his government pay lecturers their wages as of when due.

“Great Nigerian students, I want to assure you that under my PDP-led government, we will set you free to get a high standard education. We will improve your learning conditions and get you lecturers who are best in their fields so that you can be well taught. I will reverse the current situation where your schools are closed,” he said.

The PDP candidate assured the people that the state would be fully militarised before the election, to prevent any form of violence. He urged them to come out on the election day and cast their votes without fear.

Meanwhile, Omisore on Sunday felicitated with all Osun residents, particularly the Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el Fitri celebration.

In a statement by his campaign organisation, Omisore enjoined all and sundry to “continue in this spirit of Ramadan according to the teachings of the holy prophets for the common good of all. As the August 9, 2014 governorship election is drawing closer, I implore everyone to remain law-abiding as we perform our civic responsibilities.”

Also, the Chairman of the Osun PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, in his Eid-el Fitri message called on Muslims to use the period to rededicate the state to God.
