Nigerian troops uncover buried arms in Balmo forest




The ongoing mopping up operation in Balmo forest has led to more discoveries of arms stockpiled in underground cells in the forest, according to a statement from the Defence Headquarters,Abuja.


The statement by the Director, Defence Information, Maj.Gen Chris Olukolade, on Friday, said troops,  who had been excavating various sites in the forest in search of hidden weapons, had so far uncovered over 10 rifles along with parts and accessories.


The security forces also recovered more than 80 General Purpose Machine Guns, tubes of Rocket Propelled Grenades and Launchers, cables,  wires and thousands of rounds of assorted ammunition, he said.


Also recovered in the search are uniforms of security agencies, including protective clothing.

It said the suspects captured in the forest had been taken into custody and were volunteering information linking the activities in the forest with other terrorist activities in the country.


"The mopping up operation continues," the statement added.

I believe this amunition aquisition did not start in recent times, Northernerns have been buying arms long back, all those days when we here custom anounced that they intercept containers of arm, and after that the matter dies down, the various northern presidents those times I believe most of them knew about it. Nigeria should wake up and not allow these people to sink this nation, too many attrocities, from assasination of top government officials who was not in support of evil deeds....Instead of these goats to be thinking about development of the nation and the people, instead they all using politics to tear it down. When you all get to meet God on that day, then we shall all give accounts.

  5. God have mercy. Imagine a set of people/region that can not think of establishing industries but only to only to spend millions on buying destructive ammunition, they can provide scholarship, free education etc but can .....
