HORROR: Redeemers varsity student kills dad at Redemption Camp

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old undergraduate, Tolani Ajayi, of Redeemers University along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, for allegedly killing his father, Mr. Charles Ajayi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The incident, according to the police, occurred on Tuesday, July 3, at their residence on Canaanland Street within the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Redemption Camp.

Tolani was said to have slaughtered his father with a knife and later butchered him with a cutlass NigerianEye gathered.

NigerianEye learnt that Tolani afterwards allegedly packed his father’s remains in a box and dragged them into the bush within the camp.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the police later recovered the remains of the 60-year-old lawyer in a bush along Canaanland Street.

He said, “The policemen who noticed the ground mark created by the box as Tolani dragged it, followed this lead which led them to the strange discovery.”

He said Tolani, a 300-level undergraduate in the Department of History and International Relations, was arrested the same day in his late father’s residence after the discovery of the corpse and police preliminary findings.

Adejobi added that the Divisional Police Officer of the Redemption Camp Police Station, Olaiya Martins, a Superintendent of Police, had led a team of detectives and some members of the community who noticed the strange attitude of the suspect while dumping the box.

He said, “They traced the ground marks made by the box to the point where the body of the SAN was dumped and thereafter traced the mark to the house of the deceased.

“When the police got to deceased’s house, the suspect was in a relaxed mood.

“When interrogated, the suspect earlier lied that his dad had gone on evangelism, but he eventually confessed to the crime when he was taken to the Redemption Camp Divisional headquarters.”

The suspect was said to have told policemen that problem arose when his late father confronted him for not responding to all the prayer points he (the deceased) was raising, adding that he (father) later slapped him.

He said he got angry and made a dash for the kitchen and picked up a knife, with which he stabbed his father, adding that he later used a cutlass on him.

It was leant that the police had recovered the knife and cutlass used in committing the alleged crime.

Adejobi told our correspondent that the Charles’ corpse had been deposited at a morgue in the Sagamu area of the state.

NigerianEye gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, had transferred the matter to the Department of Criminal Investigation Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and necessary action.

  2. This is a abominatiom? The boy should be sentence to death. If he could murdered his father with any sobernesss then killing and murdering other not related to him is of no meaning to him. The boy is not fit and stable to co-habit with people. the death sentence should be the penalty.

  6. This is sad and unfortunate. This is a lesson to all especially parents on early proper nurturing and training of their children and also to understand that once a child matures to adulthood different attitudes is required. By the way the boy responding to request of the prayer points does not even make him a good son or person, cos we know of sons and daughters of pastors who are terrible but in their family they pretend to be saints. The point is that some leave their children wild and would want to start training them once they have turned adult.More over, The Learned gentleman should have known better that as an adult the issue of spirituality is better left for the person and parents should be more of advisory. The scriptures said train up a child in the way of God and when he grows up,he will not depart from it. Every teenager passes through a period of crisis of identity and the learned gentle man did not handle the situation well. His son may have overcome this period if the father has shown some discernment and understanding. If the boy had passed this period in his life I will not be surprised if he (the son) becomes the one calling others for family prayer meetings. However, even if he takes to other ways that may not fit into the fathers expectation when he is older it is for the father to accept him as he is since the father had done everything he had to do. Parents should also understand that their children is not their clones and can only do their best to train and raise them in the right and proper manners of behaviours, after all before God,we all are answerable to our deeds as individuals. The SAN should have learnt from his colleague the Late Justice Oputa, the son of Charley boy. Knowing God goes beyond forcing others to toe our part so to say. Besides, some spoil their children at tender age only to turn around and blame the child at later period. May his soul rest in peace as the devilish child face the full penalty.

  16. Mr Ojoma you have made some points. But that would not have been the reason for that boy to have murdered his father in a cold blood. Sometime ago my mother slapped me even as a management staff in the bank. Although I was highly annoyed would that have made me to go and kill my mother? That boy must have been killing his fellow students with ease and was not detected. But now it has come to killing his own father. It might even have been that the father had noticed that the boy was a criminal that made him to call the boy for prayers. I do not see the reason why he should murder his father. He should be killed for taking somebody's life.

  20. You are all condemning the boy for death, i think we all need to pray for his salvation, remember Jesus died for sinners. The lessons here is that it is time for the church to go back to biblical standard of discipleship, the church should do away from the message of prosperities and materialism and re-lunch salvation messages. The church should also stop making some of its mission organization like schools, hospital etc. as a money making venture. Where you have a mission school, universities where an ordinary members cannot send their child to against the intents of mission. The present day Pentecostals churches have deviated from biblical standards and you cannot neglect the biblical standards and gets biblical result. This start from you and I.

  21. The church should wake up; we've slept enough. parents should always pray for their children at their closet. know your children's friends, what they do, i mean be spiritually alive so that God can speak to you concerning your children and whom they really are, then with prayers you can deliver him/her not just calling for morning prayers which has become
    tradition in christian homes.
