I want my son jailed to learn lesson – mother tells court

A 32-year-old factory worker, Ifeanyi Chukwu, who allegedly beat and threatened to kill his mother, on Thursday appeared before an Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who lives with his mother at 15, Adeniji St., Oko-Oba, Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of assault, threatening by violence and causing damage.

The prosecutor, Insp. Racheal Williams, told the court that the offences were committed on June 15 at their residence.

She said Chukwu always beat his mother whenever he was drunk.

She said he also beat his mum whenever she rebuked him for coming home late.

Williams told the court that the accused also threatened to kill his mother and his sisters.

“A fight ensued between them and after beating his mother, the accused damaged four windows and a wooden door, valued at N25,000,” she said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 56, 170 and 349 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The mother, Mrs Helen Chukwu, said her son was not responsible, adding, “he smokes and always gets drunk whenever he is coming home.

“Anytime I rebuke him or try to advise him, he turns it to a fight, beats me and threatened to kill me.

“I want him to go to Kirikiri Prison to learn a lesson so that when he returns, he would have been reformed,” she said.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case until June 23, for ruling on the bail application. (NAN)

  1. Where is his father? It is only you, the mum that can explain that. But watch out, when he comes back from kirikiri, I pray that he will not then turn your head backwards for your comments. It is always nice to live with one's husband and not be parents to bastards.

    2. If you know what some mothers go thru to raise children or child, you wont support the comment that the woman is the cause of the man's problem. I know all mothers want the best for their kids - be it male or female. At 32 years you dont need any body to pamper you even at that...motherhood is about care.

  3. Ignorant fools commenting like they know the situation the woman is in. 1st idiot above, do you know if her husband is dead or something or just because they didn't make mention of the husband you assume he is a bastard like you? If you have nothing informative to comment, just keep your comments to yourself.

  5. Not all the children that behave like that were pampered. Some have joined bad group. You're talking about the father, what of those that live with both parent and behave the same way. Let him go to where he will learn some lessons. God will touch his heart.
