Hundreds scoop fuel from multiple accident scene



Four people were critically injured in a multiple accident at the Isele Azagba section of the Asaba – Benin expressway on Tuesday.


The accident which occurred at 9am involved a 33,000 litre petroleum tanker with a Delta State number plate EFR 208 XA, a Mazda Protege car, a Toyota Hiace bus and two other vehicles.

Soon after the accident hundreds of locals, including pregnant women and nursing mothers, turned up at the scene and began scooping fuel that poured out of the tanker.

The incident caused a serious traffic before the Federal Road Safety Corps sent in tow trucks to remove the wreckage of the accident.

The FRSC Medical Rescue Officer, Mr. Nnadozie Okparaoha, told our source that those injured in the accident were taken to the Mother and Child Hospital, Ubulu Okiti. He said in all 25 people were involved in the accident.

The police later on cordoned off the place from fuel scoopers to forestall any accidental fire. There was still fuel in the tanker, which fell on its side when our source visited the scene.
