Two policemen, three civilians killed in Kaduna



No fewer than three civilians were killed by gunmen, who raided a police station in Fadan Karshi in Sanga Local Government Council of Kaduna State.


An eyewitness said some gunmen, riding on motorcycles, stormed the police station on Tuesday night, shooting sporadically, killing two policemen and three civilians during the incident.

The Chairman of the local government, Mr. Emmanuel Adamu, who described the incident as a sad development after the peace treaty recently signed in the state, said those that sustained injuries were receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Aminu Lawan, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying investigation was already ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to the attack.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Mukhtar Yero has condemned the attack on Fadan Karshi Police Station,describing the incident as a provocative attempt by hoodlums to throw the state into confusion.

The governor who spoke through Mallam Ahmed Mayaki, his spokesman, while condoling with families of the victims of the attack, said unwarranted attack on policemen and the killing of innocent citizens in the area, were condemnable.

The governorsaid, “We call on people in Fadan Karshi and other parts of the state to remain calm as security forces have already been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. We should remain united and resolute in resisting obvious attempts by agents of darkness to create confusion and sow seeds of discord in our state.”

The governor added that security agencies had commenced investigation into the matter and were on the trail of the criminals.

“We shall bring perpetrators of this attack and all other criminal assault on our people in the past to justice,” he said.

He called on the people of the state to continue to live in peace with one another and to become more vigilant in their areas with a view to assisting security agencies with relevant information on suspicious persons and movements within and around their communities.
