Stop calling Boko Haram Islamic group, cleric urges media

The Chief Imam of Lead City University, Ibadan, Abdulrahman Muhammed-Liawal, on Sunday urged the media to stop referring to the Boko Haram sect as an Islamic group.

Muhammed-Liawal made the plea in Ibadan at a programme organised by the Muslim community of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, with the theme: “Islam and the Media.’’

The cleric, who noted that the activities of the sect were completely anti-Islam, said:

“Islam is not a religion that encourages force but rather a religion of peace and equity.

“The attitude of Boko Haram contradicts the teachings of Islam; the judgment in Islam for anybody that kills his fellow being is death.

“Anybody that understands this principle will not kill his fellow being.’’

He also advised the media to always confirm their information before reporting in order not to mislead the public.

Muhammed-Liawal, who observed that the best means of informing the people about Islam was through the media, advised well-meaning Muslims to sponsor Islamic programmes during the forthcoming Ramadan.

I am sure there are some of u people that know some of this terrorists. They need to blow the whistle and fish them out. Then and only then we will agree that you are peace loving religion. Until then, please shut up! The declare to us that they are Muslims. What does Haram mean? Is it a Christian or Juju man's word? Please!!!! Media indeed! THEY ARE MUSLIM TERRORIST COWARDS! Preying on women children and innocent people.

    1. Why are you so blindly filled with bitterness for a man who has boldly declared his stance by dissociating Islam from Boko-Haram believes? Stop hating and focus your attention on the source.

    3. Your level of ignorance is no doubt pathologically high. Haram is an Arabic word spoken by both muslim and christian Arabs referring to what is forbidden. As for those criminals you want the man to mention, he just told me that you are one of them. Yousee how that makes you feel. Stop calling those criminals muslims even though they shout in Arabic. If YOU commit a crime and shout in Arabic does that make you a muslim?

  2. The Imam shud shut his mouth, period. What better name can they be referred to as? That shudn't be his grouse. What he shud b fighting for is how the boko boys should be caught. Although their belief may b that of an extremist teaching of Islam. What is of essence is, they are Muslims. Call they fanatics; extremists, Islamic pervert, whatever you call them, they are still Muslims. They are well known Muslims and not the other way round. You should rather fight that they shud b referred to as Islamic pervert rather.

  3. Which of the holy book are they using ? To which of the prophet or gods did they pledge their allengance ? Which religion do they convert the kidnapped chikbo girls to ? If you say they are Islamic fundamentalist or extremist you may be making a point but to say Boko haram members are not Muslin is tantamount to toying with the truth

  7. Muslims who commit acts of violence and terror in the name of God, can find ample justification for their actions, based on the teachings of the Qur'an and the sayings and examples from prophet Muhammad himself!
The following are only some of the verses in the Qur'an that can and have been used in the history of Islam in support of violence in the name of God and the glories of martyrdom in a holy war.
9:5 "... fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war) ..."

9:14 "Fight them, and God will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame ..."

9:29 "Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and his apostle nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth (even if they are) of the people of the Book, until they pay the Jizya [religious tax] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

47:4 "Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers, smite at their necks, at length when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them) ... but if it had been God's will, he could certainly have exacted retribution from them (himself), but (he lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the way of God, he will never let their deeds be lost."

61:4 "Truly God loves those who fight in His cause in battle array, as if they were a solid cemented structure."

2:190-193 "Fight in the cause of God those who fight you ... And slay them wherever ye catch them ... And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression and there prevail justice and faith in God ..."
4:101 "... For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies."
5:54 "O ye who believe. Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors. They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust."
