A police sergeant, Otene Goodwin attached to the Area ‘E’ Command, FESTAC Town, in Lagos has been arrested for allegedly killing a towing vehicle driver.
The victim, Onyema Edewor was shot by the Sergeant for allegedly refusing to stop when he was asked to last Friday at Alakija area.
The policeman with Force number 355272 was arrested immediately after the incident by the Area E commander, Assistant Commissioner Dan Okoro on the orders of the State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Umar Manko and is now in custody.
A senior Police officer at the Area E Command said when the news got to the ACP Okoro,he raced to the scene and rushed the victim to the hospital but he was confirmed dead by a doctors following excessive bleeding.
The State Police Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) said Otene had abandoned his duty post as the Station Guard at the Area ‘E’ Command and left for Alakija area where the unfortunate incident occurred.
She said”The sergeant is already in police custody and the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident is being investigated”.
“The Nigeria Police is a disciplined organisation and will not tolerate any act of indiscipline from their men and officers..
“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State CP Umar A. Manko wishes to use this medium to appeal to members of the public to remain calm and maintain peace as justice will definitely be done. He also assures the deceased family that investigation will be concluded in good time”.
The Commissioner Of Police has paid a condolence visit to the deceased family.

Point of correction pls, it wasn't da tow truck driver dat was killed rather da car owner whose car was being towed. It appears da towing car driver fled da scene after stopin leavin da towed cars owner and his friends @ da mercy of da police. Get ur facts straight pls
