Jonathan cancels Chibok visit

President Goodluck Jonathan has called off a visit to the town where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted, officials say.
Sources had told the BBC he would stop in Chibok, in the north-east, on his way to a conference in France on the threat from Boko Haram militants.
But the visit was called off for security reasons, the officials said.
The president – under pressure over his government’s failure to rescue the girls – will fly direct to Paris.
The BBC’s Gabriel Gatehouse in Nigeria says the cancellation of this visit underlines just how fragile the security situation is in the north-east.
On Thursday, relatives of the girls called for their unconditional release by Boko Haram.
Jonathan is said to have ruled out negotiations over a possible release of prisoners.
Nothing was seen of the girls for almost a month after they were taken from Chibok.
But on Monday the group released a video showing more than 100 of them and offering an exchange for prisoners.
UK Africa Minister Mark Simmonds said Jonathan had “made it very clear that there will be no negotiation” at a meeting on Wednesday.
President Jonathan has been criticised for not visiting the town – more than a month after the girls were seized.
The president will travel to Paris to take part in a summit convened by French President Francois Hollande to discuss Boko Haram.
The leaders of Nigeria’s neighbours – Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad – are scheduled to attend the summit on Saturday, which will also include representatives from the UK, US and EU.
A statement said delegates at the meeting will “discuss fresh strategies for dealing with the security threat posed by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in west and Central Africa”.

ReplyDeleteyes! that's good Mr President. don't go there now. even the soldiers who should protect are divided n not happy. the North and some element may sabotage your security. God will continue to guide you.
ReplyDeleteThis shows his uncompassionate nature and his unpatriotic feeling with the situation in North.
ReplyDeleteThis emphasize the Nyako's memo.

ReplyDeleteDaft and senseless comments by under 18s! Please, if you are below 18 and your brain isn't developed enough to think straight, then you need not comment. What is wrong if the president is required to sacrifice his life for the girls release? If that is what is needed, so be it. One thing I'm sure of is if the president's daughter were to be among those girls, more drastic actions would have been taken for their release. The Captain of the wrecked ship in South Korea was arrested and charged for mass murder - why? Because he saved himself rather than doing everything possible to save the school girls that perished in the disaster. He was held responsible for the lives of those girls. That's what leadership is all about. Jonathan as the Commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria has failed to protect the Chibok girls. He has even failed to immediately secure their release after many weeks. He should accept is mistakes and wisely follow the path of honour. Out of over 170million people, I don't want to believe that Jonathan is still be best man for this job with all the state of insecurity and the increased level of poverty happening now because if he's still seen as the best man, then the whole Nigerian populace must be blockheads!
ReplyDeleteA leader that is afraid to lose his life to save that of his followers is not worth following. Simply put - he doesn't deserve to be a leader! Why is Jonathan afraid of visiting Chibok? His he not supposed to be the father of those girls as the President of the country? If he's really in control of the whole security apparatus of the country and he can't confidently boast that the huge amount of money voted for security since the beginning of this menace has been judiciously spent, then he shouldn't be scared of visiting any part of the country is presiding over. Probably he doesn't know that Chibok is part of Nigeria or he thinks he's the president of Abuja city. We don't want a chicken-livered heart as our president please. Jonathan wake up or leave for more competent hands.

ReplyDeletePresident GEJ the Good Lord will continue to protect and guide u from the hands of ur ENEMIES who think they were born to rule nigeria, Who also think leadership is their birthright, they will not get u, they have failed, if u go to chibok they will kill u cos the news all over the place dat d president is coming, so it is better u send someone to represent u dat will be the only solution, Ur going to chibok will not bring back our girls neither will it stop terrorism in nigeria cos if u go there and they kill u, this country will never remain the same again.
ReplyDeleteThe guilty are always afraid, visit or no visit, nemesis will surely catch up with gej. Wicked and a heartless man.
ReplyDeleteNice one there. Gone were the days when REAL MEN governed our dear country. Remember june 12 when the late Abacha was ready to face Lagos all by himself? Now we have incompetent women that are not even up to women like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Kuti and the likes of Margaret Ekpo in power. What do you expect? When elections come, they use foolish people to help them rig results and use deaf and dumb brains to help them make noise, you know that empty vessels make the loudest noise. They use ethnic and religious bigotry to seek sympathy, what a shame.
DeleteU are an Idiote and a big fool 4ever,will his visit to Chibok make difference or bring back the girls, let the vice president Namadi Sambo visit Chibok since GEJ could not go and thats why he is the vice president, sorry ur plans will not work, why don't U go HUG TRANSFORMER“TARAUNI” the nemesis of the kills the Boko Haram are inflitting on the mases will also catch up with U.DAN ISHKA.........
ReplyDeleteso you want GEJ to die, to sacrifice himself for your stupidity. I can see why you kidnapped those girls and u are also requesting he should come to chibok so u can kill him. you cannot do anything to him because I am personally interceeding for him before GOD ALMIGHTY THRU JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AMEN.
