Suspected Boko Haram members invade Girls College, Kidnap over 200 girls

Heavily armed Islamist gunmen kidnapped over 200 girls from a secondary school in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state and torched the surrounding town, a local official and a witness revealed.

“Many girls were abducted by the rampaging gunmen who stormed the school in a convoy of vehicles,” said Emmanuel Sam, an education official in the town of Chibok, where the attack took place on Monday.

The attackers are suspected to be members of Boko Haram, a radical Islamist group whose name means “Western education is forbidden”.

It has repeatedly attacked schools in the northeast during an insurgency that has killed thousands since 2009.

The gunmen came “in trucks and on motorcycles and headed to the school”, where they overpowered soldiers deployed to guard it, said a witness who requested anonymity.

He said soldiers had been deployed to provide extra security ahead of yearly exams, but the gunmen “subdued the soldiers and took the girls away”.

He was not able to provide an estimate of the number of girls abducted.

In an attack earlier this year in Borno state, witnesses said Boko Haram gunmen surrounded a girls’ school, forced the students to leave and ordered them to immediately return to their villages.

Sam spoke in Borno’s capital Maiduguri where he said he fled after the attack at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok.

He Never thought of asking help from other countries when it is very obvious he cannot handle these things as he failed in many other issues. very proud and thus continue failing.

    1. Mr. David, what this situation needs is not prayer but competent action. You Nigerians are depleting seriously your intellectual capacity with all these nonsense religious beliefs. If the west was this religious, they would have attained the level technological advancements they have presently.

  15. Hmmmmmmm. Do they now want to get their reward of virgins on earth? Are they in so much of a hurry to wait for the afterlife to feel the warmth of untainted youth. Cursed beings, cowards of the highest order. Why is their strength only displayed in killing suffering masses at bus stops? Didn't any of those fools hear about GEJ's dauggter's wedding over the weekend, if you ask me that would have been a perfect place and time to display their seriousness and boldness. Fools. I spit on all of you Boko Haram bastards. God will hold you all accountable for your sins. Idiots. Dan iska.

When, ... Sometimes the strongest among us are the ones who smile through silent pain, cry behind close doors, and fight battle that nobody knows about ...”my silence is just another word for my pain”, "you killed what was left of the good in me"... how happy do you think you'll ever be in the world, ...President Jonathan, one day the so-called BOOKHARAM will reach your house?

  19. Ever since I heard yesterday about this kidnap I just have not been myself. Some group just kidnap 200 teenage girls! And no response from government even after 24hrs? How big is even ds BORNO state? Are we saying that there can't be 24 hrs locked down of Borno? No going out no going in until ds girls are found? Even if they have crossed to Chad or Niger or Cameeroon what is stopping us from following them? Did kenya not enter somalia to deal with al shabbab interference with tourist in Kenya? What is the Governor still doing in state house? Yet the d best the president can do is to be attending birthday of a 100 year old man? Is the 100 year old man more important than 200 abducted female children? If over 100 bombed death and 200 kidnapping of teenager will not spur Jonathan into action can anything ever will? Simply because he want to be the next president? Thank God I never believed nor voted for jonathan the guilt would have been too much for me to bear! Let him know that the blood of all Nigerians loosing their lives to BH and those being kidnapped are on HIM because he had ALL the time in world to deal with these earlier but did not due to his SELFISH political considerations then! And if he continue in this part he should not be suprised that by 2015 there may not be a country for him to be a President of! A word is enough for the wise!

  20. GEJ or what ever he call himself is not serious......The Northern elders too don't value lives, if someone could say the real boko haram will accept hamnesty, and he can not be arrested immediately, that means all of these people are playing with lives. They all know the people sponsoring these eveil, GEJ also said sometime ago that he will release the list of boko sponsors, till now nothing has been heard. You see they all know what is going on, all the boko they have arrested and interrogated, who will tell me that that have also not gotten clue of sponsors from them, yet not action, all that happens is silince...and killing and kidnapping continues. Also EK Clark said kidnapping is one thing Nigerians will have to leave with becasue his son was kidnapped and he was beging for his release, how could he say such a thing, and no single person in that country see what is wrong with what that thief have said, see how they are destroying the country, and make the country turn to a lawless place.

  22. I cannot understand why all these security lapses. Does it mean that when these terrorists were regrouping, moving in convoy, advancing to the school; the security agents were not alerted. Even the people in the vicinity could not raise alarm when the saw suspicious movement. Or the security and intellegence network in the area were they sleeping?
