Nigeria assumes AU Security Chair for April



Mr. Lolo Bulus, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the AU and Ambassador to Ethiopia, has assumed the one-month rotational Chair of the 15-member African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) for April.



The development coincides with a similar development at the UN, where Prof. Joy Ogwu, assumed the one-month Rotational Presidency of the UN Security Council.

Nigeria during the one month AUPSC chairmanship, will preside at deliberations on matters of security in some parts of Africa, namely, situations in Central African Republic (CAR), Mali and Sahel as well as in South Sudan.

Under Nigeria’s chairmanship, the AUPSC will hold an open session on unconstitutional changes of government and popular uprising in Africa with the lessons and challenges.

The council’s programme of activities for the month of April shows that AUPSC will hold an open session on “Silencing the Guns“: Pre-requisites for achieving conflict-free in Africa by 2020’’.

Meanwhile, the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs and Nigeria’s Dr Aisha Abdullahi is expected to brief the council on the political crises in CAR and development in Mali and the Sahel during the period. (NAN)
