Kogi Governor sacks commissioners

The Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada has sacked his commissioners and other appointed members of the state’s executive council.

He also directed the commissioners to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries.

A statement by the Special Adviser Media and Strategy to the Governor, Mr. Jacob Edi, said the dissolution was conveyed to the affected officials at the end of the weekly executive council meeting in Lokoja on Wednesday.

Edi said, “The Governor thanked the former executive members for their unflinching and meritorious service to the state. He further enjoined them to be ready for further services to the fatherland as may be required.

“The commissioners are to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries.”

The governor also expressed his resolve to reorganise the State Universal Basic Education Board. He spoke when members of the Bureau for Local Government Pension paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Lokoja.

He described the alleged high level of non-performance by the present management of the State UBEC as very embarrassing.

He claimed that education had been given priority attention in his transformation agenda.

He vowed to resist any attempt by those entrusted to oversee the sector to allegedly sabotage government’s effort towards the realisation of its goal.

Wada said, “I am disappointed with the non-performance of the Chairman and members of SUBEB and very soon I will restructure the board to give room for improved services in handling the affairs of primary school teachers in the state.”

He commended members of the Bureau for Local Government Pension for working out effective modalities that had facilitated regular payment of pensioners in the state and the gradual settlement of their gratuity.

He also directed the Pension Board to take accurate statistics of the Local Government Pensioners in the state to avoid payment to ghosts pensioners.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Bureau for Local Government Pension, Mr. Joseph Ogundare, lauded Wada for addressing the plight of pensioners, especially the regular payment of their pension.

He promised that the Board will not compromise transparency in the systems.
