Seven killed in fresh attack in Borno

The violence in the North-East continued on Thursday as the rampaging Boko Haram insurgents butchered seven travelers at Wala ‘A,’ Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

One of the victims of the Thursday attack was identified as a patent medicine store owner from Gwoza.

The other six victims were said to be residents of Gadamayo who were travelling to Maiduguri when they ran into an ambush of the insurgents hiding in the hills of Gwoza.

A security source said the seven travelers were all butchered to death by the insurgents.

The killing took place as the military announced the arrest of one of the most brutal butchers of the Boko Haram sect in Maiduguri.

The human butcher was said to be among those captured in Mainok and Maiduguri who are being sorted out by troops.

It was learnt that the Boko Haram member who specializes in killing human beings with machete made the confession during interrogation by the Special Forces.

The Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, confirmed the arrest of the insurgent in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

The town of Mafa which is 35 kilometres east of Maiduguri, where another clash between soldiers and Boko Haram members occurred, on Wednesday had been attacked and razed by the insurgents on Sunday.

There were reports that 35 people comprising 32 civilians and three policemen were killed in the attack.
