Nigeria, Namibia to build jont oil refinery

Nigeria and Namibia are to build a joint oil refinery to be located in Walvis Bay, Namibia. President Goodluck Jonathan and his Namibian counterpart,

Hofokepunye Pohamba, took the decision weekend during Jonathan’s two-day state visit to Namibia. Both leaders resolved that the refinery be completely financed by the private sector.

They therefore charged the private sector in their countries to key into the project. The leaders also asked the private sector to take advantage of investment opportunities in both countries to promote trade and commerce.

In another development, Nigeria has resolved to train Namibian diplomats at the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy and to provide volunteer health professionals to Namibia under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Scheme. These were part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both nations during the visit. They also signed agreements on youth development, Bilateral Air Service Agreement and agreement on waiver of visa requirements for citizens holding diplomatic and official passports, among others.
