Boko Haram will not kill our students again - I.G of Police

Following the killing of about 50 student of Federal Government College, Yobe, by suspected Boko Haram gunmen last week, the Inspector -General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has declared war on the sect, and promised to ensure that the incident did not happen again.

The IG, while playing host to students of Pacesetters College, Gwarinpa, Abuja in his office on Tuesday, said that President Goodluck Jonathan had directed all security chiefs to ensure adequate security at all schools in the country.

He stated that all hands must be on deck to fight the menace and ensure that the ‘criminal elements’ do not harm and kill helpless students.

Abubakar said, “Mr. President has directed all security agencies to put all efforts together to ensure proper policing of all schools, to avoid the repeat of what happened at Yobe. These criminal elements must not be allowed to wreck havoc anymore in schools in Nigeria.”

The police boss pledged to ensure that the lives of all students are protected against criminals in the society.

He called for a minute silence for the slain students and admonished Pacesetters College students to be serious with their education.

The IG said, “Education is the best legacy your parents have so far given you, which is sound education, therefore, you must get serious with your academics and shun any forms of unseriousness. No matter how well educated your parents are, they can’t transfer their credentials to you.

“You must face your studies with all seriousness and become someone great in the society. I can see presidents, future IG, senate president, great men and women amongst you here today. Please get serious with your studies so that you will be able to attain to the highest.”

Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Raphael Adewoye, had earlier thanked the IG and promised to make maximum use of the knowledge gathered during the visit.

In another development, the Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa presented her centenary award to the IG in a low key ceremony at the Force Headquarters.
