You’re not qualified to contest in 2015 - Kwankwaso tells Jonathan

As President Goodluck Jonathan prepares for his re-election next year, Kano State Governor, Dr. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso has warned that Jonathan is not qualified to contest for presidency in 2015.

According to the governor, any attempt by Jonathan to run in the next poll will amount to a third term in office, which is not acceptable to most Nigerians.

Kwankwaso, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, yesterday, advised President Jonathan to take urgent steps to solve the raging insecurity challenges in the North-East and stabilise the Nigerian economy and take a bow from governance in 2015, when he would have attained the eight-year maximum limit stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.

The governor argued that contrary to the President’s position that his tenure started in 2011, the true position remains that he actually started serving as Nigeria’s President in 2007 and would have completed his eight years in 2015.

Describing any third term bid as a taboo, Kwankwaso pointed out that Jonathan and those urging him to run in 2015 could never justify such a move, which runs contrary to the clear provisions of the law.

The governor said: “Jonathan is not qualified to contest election again in 2015 going by the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. Third term is not acceptable to any part of Nigeria and the time limit stipulated must be respected by all Nigerians.

“I am sure Nigerians will kick against a third term whether by Jonathan or by any other person in this country.

Mr. President would have completed his eight years in office by 2015. He served as Vice President for two years, Acting President for two years and is doing another four years, which will terminate in 2015.

“But those advising the President are pretending that his tenure started in 2011. I saw them on television the other day trying to argue in that direction, but they can never be correct. I am not a lawyer, but I know that two plus four plus six can never be eight.

  1. Kwankwaso or whtever you called i dare you & your cohorts to do your worst. You & your fellow northern elder raised the BH to make the country ungovernable & now you have the gut to be talking about insecurity & unstable economy. May you all be swallowed up in your evil conspiracy. President GEJ is our President come 2015. And there is nothing you & your devil advocate can do but bow.

  2. Mr. Governor should be enlightened very well and i wonder why such man of his caliber would make such statement. Nigeria constitution stated clearly that elected President and GEJ was not elected during those period you mentioned in your article so you need to stage out sentiment and be sincere with yourself. GEJ deserves to contest 2015 if he wishes to do do cos he was elected ones and he still his mandate to re-contest if he desires. I sincerely advice that we should desist from such callous heart and let peace reign in this country.

So if a deputy governor or vice president serves 2 terms with his principal and then decides to run for election as Governor or President he cannot? foolish words from a foolish and power drunken man who is desperate to become president. Go and stop him from running now mumu man. This set of politicians are so desperate for power that their reasoning faculty has been impaired. No wonder they can hardly perform in their present posts. APC you are welcome to have such people in your ranks, low intellect and all.

  11. In all honesty I question the education of kwakwanso. His statement goes a long way to show that the rot in our eductional system did not start with d Jonathan admistration, not even the Obasanjos. I listened to David Cameron speak on economic issues in his copuntry and I wondered how much intelligence been shown by a 42yr old man. The nigerian case is different. Bunch of old men who have forgotten all dey learnt in their school days. Rabiu kwakwanso, a classic example.

  13. He reasons and talks like Amaechi in Rivers State. Sometimes one wonders how these type of people got so far in modern politics. No sense of sound judgement, fair mindedness, objectivity, name it. Amaechi himself speaks like a street boy, no courtesy, no diplomacy, just raw and rough which is ungubernatorial. I pity their supporters and the general masses they rule

  16. Why not give GEJ chance let's see how far he can go in Re-building this country,i used the word"Re-build" because he was not the one that inflated corruption in this country.. It was our past leaders of which Majority of them are Northerners..Is as if GEJ is not doing anything because you people promised his government to be Ungovernable and kept to your promise by Unveiling Boko Haram to disturb the peace of the nation.. How can he(GEJ) achieve up to your expectation with the existence of Boko Haram and other Political Sabotage, all to make sure his government was Ungovernable according to the promised earlier made....Nigerians should open there eyes because the whole of them parading themselves as APC are criminals and as such, the major problems this country is facing today.
