A rally earlier planned for the return of a former Lagos State Governor and All Progressives Congress, APC, leader, Bola Tinubu, has been cancelled, out of respect for the families of those who died in Thursday’s plane crash.

Thirteen passengers were killed when an Akure-bound aircraft belonging to Associated Aviation Limited crashed shortly after taking off from the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

A statement by Funso Ologunde on behalf of APC Reception Committee, said Mr. Tinubu would return to the country on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The former governor is returning from the United Kingdom where he is currently recuperating after a knee surgery in the United States. He left the country in July.

The statement, however, said that despite the cancellation of the reception/rally, Mr. Tinubu would still address a world press conference at the Executive Jet between the Presidential Lounge and the Nigeria Air Force premises.

It said, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu shall return to Nigeria on Saturday 5th October, 2013.
“The rally/reception earlier planned for him at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island has been cancelled at Asiwaju’s instance, in sympathy with the families who lost their loved ones in the air crash of Thursday 3rd October, 2013.

“Nevertheless, he shall still return to the country, and address the world press on arrival.”
The Lagos State chapter of APC also condoled with all the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of their souls.
