Yobe Governor cries after Boko Haram massacre over 45 students

Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam
It was an emotional scene as the Governor of Nigeria’s north eastern state of Yobe visited the capital’s specialist hospital where the injured from another Boko Haram mindless attack were recuperating.

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam could just not hold emotions back: he burst into tears.

He saw the critically injured; five students, three of whom have fractures, one has a abdominal injury and another a bullet wound.

What really burst Gaidam’s dam of emotions was the chilling sight of 45 corpses—all students of the School of Agriculture, Gujba, latest victims of the mindless massacre by Boko Haram gunmen.

The Medical Director, Damaturu Specialist Hospital, Dr Garba Fika, confirmed that at least 40 students of the college were killed in the attack early Sunday.

The governor, who spoke in tears, urged security operatives to intensify aerial surveillance of the area.
The state deputy governor, Abubakar Aliyu, the Provost of the College Mulima Mato, and other dignitaries also shed tears at the mortuary when they saw the corpses of the students.

Schools in Yobe re-opened just 13 days ago after 10 weeks of forced closure following unrelenting Boko Haram attacks on schools.

The attacks had led to the death of 29 students and three teachers.

In June this year, seven students and two teachers were killed at Government Secondary School Damaturu. In July, 22 students and two teachers were killed at Government Secondary School Mamudo.

As the government makes arrangement for the burial of the slain students, parents were seen in groups discussing the fate of their children in view of the serial attacks on schools in the state
Speaking in an interview with the NAN, a parent who requested anonymity said that he and other parents were scared of sending their children and wards to school.

“We are shocked, saddened and scared of sending our wards back to school with these ugly incidents of attack on schools in Damaturu, Mamudo and now, Gujba,” he said.

Meanwhile, chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Governor Babangida Aliyu has charged security agencies to do all within their powers to halt the killing of defenceless citizens, and attacks on places of worship and educational facilities especially in the North East, by members of extremist sect, Boko Haram.

Aliyu, said its members were seriously concerned at renewed attacks on innocent people, following Sunday’s killing of 40 students of the College of Agriculture, Gujba, Yobe State, as well as the killing of 15 persons in Zangang community in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“The forum is particularly alarmed that the shooting to dead of 40 students of the College of Education; Gujba, Yobe State followed the same pattern as the killing of 22 students and a teacher at Government Secondary School, Mamudo in the same state last July,” said a statement signed by Mr. Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo.

May GOD spare their life. if we dont remove sentiments from this BH palava I bet u sooner or later that project called Nigeria will collapse.

  9. Why is he shedding crocodile tears? Is he not one of their sponsors? I have lived in Maiduguri before, this governor was the one that harbour these bastards called boko haram when they were being flushed out from Borno state. He though harbouring them will make them not to attack his state. They have chased away all the southerners among them, now it is themselves that they are killing. Don't pity him, they are reaping the fruit of the evil seeds that they have planted.

  10. May their soul rest in peace.

There is no need to apportion blame in this matter. People should begin to make good suggestions for eradicating the menace.

My first suggestion is to inform Nigerians to be vigilant at all times. People should quit corruption.

Some Nigerians are supporting Boko Haram. How do they get ammunitions without support from some Nigerians?

  11. I will blame the death of these students on the military commander and his men. It shows they are not proactive enough in the performance of their duty. In fact the Commander of that Sector should be held responsible. If strict disciplinary measure is not taking against the person whose duty is to ensure the security of humans and materials resources’ in his Area of Responsibility, this type of killings will never abate. It is a known fact that the BH main targets are schools and places of worship. If this fact is established, then it amounts to negligence of duty if any of these places in session is attacked for lack of adequate security. It is high time the commanders at whatever level of command and their men wake up to their responsibility.

  12. My confusion is this, if you're against western education why not just burn down the schools or wherever you wanna destroy? Why kill innocent people? Why?
And for those saying it is not a religious killing, how do we believe that, when the perpetrators are claiming to be doing it for Allah, and your clerics have not come out to take a firm stand for or against the act.
These acts are obviously not by Nigerians, so how did our government let our borders so loose that even a Niger herdsman can bring in his cattle to graze in Nigeria. Failed system. Failed Government. Failed People. Failures!!!
