STRIKE: Nigerian refs abandon league

Nigeria Referees Association has jettisoned a planned strike meant to protest incessant harassment by fans and officials of Nigeria premier league clubs.

The men in black had threatened to down their whistles starting from today’s matches if the League Management Company fails to address issues concerning the safety of its members. However NRA chairman, Ahmed Maude informed that his members will take to the field having been assured by the LMC

“There was an issue no doubt, but we have resolved it. We will officiate the league till the last game,” Maude declared.

He stated that this season, referees have been fair with their officiating.

“I must say kudos to my referees for doing wonderfully well this season, as you can see on the league table, no team is sure of winning the league or escaping relegation. That is why we told LMC our mind.”

A referee who does not want his name in print told MTNFootball.com that they wanted to boycott the league because they are been neglected by LMC.

“Actually we wanted to stop officiating from the next game to tell LMC our mind, we are the ones at the receiving end at match venues, being harassed, molested and beaten up by fans. And at the end LMC will ask the team to pay hefty fines with nothing getting to us the referees.”

  1. Corruptible referees.

That is the reason why Nigerians don't like them, it is even one of the reasons why you don't see them on international duties.

Who plays home wins at home, that is our syndrome in this country.

9ja Referees, change your ways now.
