Stowaway boy: Siblings begs for his release

Eight days into the dramatic discovery of a teenage boy hidden inside the wheel compartment of an Arik Air which flew him to Lagos, the siblings of the 13-year- old Junior Secondary School (JSS) 2 student, Daniel Oikhena, yesterday, appealed to the concerned authority to release him.

Desmond, 9, the immediate younger brother and Kelvin, 6, who said they slept in the same room when Daniel left that fateful day, passionately appealed to the security agencies to let their brother go. They said he acted in ignorance.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Desmond said he was not surprised when the news came to them last Sunday that Daniel was in Lagos.

“Oga, I want my brother released to us. We are missing him and want him back home. My family is not happy over the continued detention of our brother.

“He is just a child and must have acted out of ignorance; we need his brotherly love and guidance. We are appealing to those responsible for his detention to please consider us because we have no money to fight any case.”

  1. Detain over what? The SSS is jobless. They should chase Boko Haram instead of harrassing a clueless boy. If he had bombed the plane would they detain dead bodies?(God Forbid). The family should get a lawyer or are they illiterates.

  4. SSS....have been idle for a while...here's one good way of keeping busy........the order of the day, shouldn't be detaining the boy, but to check and correct the loop hole.....the boy has kind of indicated lapses in our security......this is where they should focus on!!!!! naija security agents need to be tutored!!!

  5. This innocent boy is an hero,Our government should put on their thinking cap on how to solve our societal menace instead of troubling the poor boy.

I really sorry for this nation.

  6. They should get details on how he was able to get into the wheel compartment and then release him to his family. They need to work on security issues and start by addressing the loophole which made it possible for this boy to gain access to the the wheel compartment in the first place.

  9. It's only isurgency groups like Al Qaeda, Boko Haram etc that will be interested in stunt man like 'skill' of that poor boy. Governor Rauf Aregbesola should publicly dissociate himself from a group that parades his name in Osun State that is said to be considering awarding the boy a scholarship to further his education.
