Amaechi’s 2015 presidential campaign posters flood Port Harcourt

Who has flooded Port Harcourt and other parts of Rivers State with posters of Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s campaign for president in 2015.

The question remained unanswered yesterday, with Amaechi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), saying that mischief makers who are scared of competition, were behind the posters. The posters confirmed that he is eminently qualified to be the President.

The governor spoke on the telephone yesterday through the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha.

Many residents thought the posters may have come from the camps of the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, and state Rivers Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Felix Obuah.

Okocha declined comments on this. He said Rivers people knew those responsible.

State PDP Publicity Secretary Samuel Nwanosike, however, exonerated Wike and Obuah.

Okocha said: “We thought the initial kite they were flying was that Governor Amaechi wanted to be Vice President in 2015. Now that his presidential campaign posters are in Rivers State; that means he is eminently qualified to be Nigeria’s President.

“There are mischief makers in the system who are scared of competition. They are definitely behind the Rivers Governor’s 2015 presidential campaign posters. Their stock-in-trade is to do mischief. Rivers people know those behind the posters. I will not mention their names.”

Okocha also stated that Amaechi would not be distracted by the antics of the desperate opposition politicians within and outside the PDP, stressing that the NGF chairman remained focused and committed to his administration’s transformation agenda.

Nwanosike, who is also the Secretary-General of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), which has Wike as the grand patron, asked Amaechi to stop deceiving Rivers people, but to own up to the presidential campaign posters.

The Rivers PDP’s publicity secretary said: “Wike and Obuah are not behind pasting of Amaechi’s 2015 presidential campaign posters. Chiefs Wike and Obuah are above such dirty politics.

“Are you saying that Amaechi is only having problem with Wike and Obuah? Will you also accuse President Goodluck Jonathan and Alhaji Bamanga Tukur of being behind the posters? It is obvious that Amaechi and his drowning associates are confused.

“When they pasted the 2015 governorship campaign posters of Wike in Rivers State about two weeks ago, they in-turn accused the Minister of State for Education of being behind the posters.

“We stand by President Jonathan and he will seek re-election in 2015. We are supporting President Jonathan, not because he is from the Southsouth zone or because his wife (Dame Patience) is from Rivers State (Otuoke), but because he is doing well.”

The GDI’s secretary-general also urged all Nigerians to continue to support President Jonathan who, according to him, is determined to transform Nigeria.

  5. It is too early for North to start dreaming of producing the next president . If they like let them continue to cause more confusion in the southern states of the country . When it is time for the election will we formally tell you that . We in the south cannot trust you because of the confusion you are presently using your book haram machinery to do in Nigeria .Jonathan`s way of handling problems in this country demonstrates that he is well qualified ,educated and a pure democratic president this country has ever produced .

  7. presidency is not going back to the north either by hook or crook. Ameachi is fighting a battle that i hope he has the liver to finish cos when push comes to shove he will be the scapegoaat in it all( mark my words). north has ruled for more years than any other tribe and have nothing to show for it (high level of illiteracy, high poverty levels, bad roads, no infrastructure); infact all they have to show is a lot of highly uneducated wealthy rogues who live of the collective wealth of everyone! If you people are to myopic to see that the battle that is on now is not about jonathan but about where power resides then to bad for you! the people who claim to be fighting for you have never fought for the people but rather for their own pockets so therefore the battle is not about what is right or wrong for the masses of this country but about who controls the resources and looting rights; if that be the case then let those who contribute the greatest share of the national cake also enjoy it for 8yrs

  8. Nigeria has never been this bad. If GEJ is the best that south south can produce, then i pray they never smell the power again. Power might go anywhere but not toGEJ and his likes. He certainly does not know what to do with power- he either underuse, overuse or apply power wrongly. Education is not about being a doctor of zoos or animals. This GEJ is a stack illiterate with deadened sense of responsibility. I say enough of suffering to us all
