British PM to persuade Jonathan to give equal rights to gay/lesbians

Britain to engage Jonathan on same-sex marriage bill
Britain will  engage Nigeria on the bill seeking to stop same-sex marriage, British Prime Minister David Cameron said yesterday.

He was speaking against the backdrop of the legislation already passed by the National Assembly prescribing 14 years imprisonment for same sex marriage offenders. The bill is waiting for presidential assent to become law.

Cameron said yesterday “nothing should be off the table” when it comes to foreign aid and protecting equal rights. He spoke on a BBC programme.

Cameron told the BBC that he would be raising the issue with Nigeria’s leaders.

“With countries like Nigeria, where we have a very good relationship, a very strong relationship, nothing should be off the table”, the prime minister said.

“So when we meet with Nigerian politicians and Nigerian leaders, we should be very clear about those things that we agree about and very clear where we disagree.”

Mr Cameron said the UK has a “very good record on equal rights for lesbian and gay people”, adding: “we believe that’s right for every country in the world.”

“The matter of your sexuality is something that shouldn’t be a disadvantage to you [just as] your religion, or your race, or the way you should choose your life “
When asked if UK foreign aid should be docked from Nigeria, the prime minister said: “We will have to have some conversations with them, as I said nothing is off the table and we should have these conversations, but we also have some very important objectives with the Nigerians for instance to deal with the appalling rates of poverty in the north of Nigeria which [is] part of a problem that affects not just Nigeria but the rest of the world.”

The PM added: “But as I said, nothing [is] off the table; always prepared to have these conversations, and my view very strongly is that we should have proper equality for lesbian and gay people and that should apply everywhere in the world.”

  1. Immooral and ungodly are the western people. If you believe in doing whatever you want in UK, in Africa we value our culture and religoin. Therefore you must not impose all sorts of western mentality on us. You go with your foreign aid, Nigewria is not that poor and afterll how much is the aid interms of our national income of GDP.

  3. if we are disagree with UK on anything, it has to be this same-sex marriage. we are to be clear to them that we are not animalistic and depraved as they are to go contrary to natural principles of life. I pity countries like the UK, Iceland and USA. they will rot in Hell if they dont repent.

  4. The west should not impose their immoral way of life on us... God said Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve also the word of God said.....You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (NKJ, Leviticus 18:22) If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. (NKJ, Leviticus 20:13)

  5. The judgement of God is coming on those countries and world leaders who promote evil and sin. God is not a respecter of anyman, He destroyed Sodom and Gomorah of old, He would do same except they repent.

  7. Everywhere in the world except my great country Nigeria'cos we 're God-fearing . Marriage by God's standard is b/w a man and a woman period , any other thing outside of this is stanic , it does'nt matter who is saying it . My dear president , don't buy that idea if they want to help us , there're so many other ways tru which they can do that but I personally do'nt think we have need for their help.

  9. Why did they tied foreign aid to sinning against God? If they are sincere, they should have tie such aid to corruption in the land. I can foresee anti-chirst activities and end time signs. Vain is the help of man, let us trust God, abstain from sin, and work hard. We shall succeed as individual and nation at large.

  11. They can't force us to accept this, they don't control us or own us. I believe the president is a God fearing man, he is very much aware of the consequece if he choose to agree with the PM. The problem we are facing in Nigeria is quit enough they should not add to it. Who can help us if God reject or condem us, the british should keep their aid.

  13. Nigerian leadership shud remember dat God is trying them at ds period of global decay. The bible says we shud fear him dat has d power to destroy both d soul n body n nt d man dat can only destroy d body. If d president n his cabinet shud stand their ground to represent God at ds time, God can make Nigeria better dan UK,US or whoever they be. The westerners r already confused r looking for companions in their confusion. Gay marriage is an insolence to God pls do nt add to our sins already weighing us down.

  14. God's wrath wil surely decend on Cameron if he doesn't stop carryin dis gay/lesb ian thng d way he's doin. Instead of him to thnk of good policies he can throw his weight on, he's busy lookin for whch gay/lesbian's right to protect. I'm sure he's a gay. Anyway, I wil only buy his idea d day I see he-goat havin sex wit a fellow he-goat. But as long as animals stil respect God, we. Wil surely follow suit. As for their aid, I really dnt blame him, cuz if not for our corrupt politicians, why should a country like Nigeria wit enormous mineral resources be dependin on what anoda can giv us. Anyway, Jonathan knws his limit. If he doesn't sign d bill into law, I trust our NASS they will still pass it into law wit d president assent. Dis is a true proof dat God is an African.

  16. This is issue can be analysed as follow, u shld know dat religion & personal beleive is different thing, in d 1st place muslim are terrorists like osama binladen, shekau etc, bt christian are same sex preacher like david cameroon, obama etc. So most christians wld say islam is nt a gud religion, in dis aspect of gay, most muslims may say christianity is nt a gud religion. Whereas in quran, there are verses against terrorism and in bible there are verses against gay. So stop abusing a religion in d sense of seeing some of their members patronising acts out of religion, i believe this is more of personal sentiments than religion.

  20. Mr. Prime Minister, Nigeria is a sovereign State; Nigeria is an independent Country, allow Nigerians to take their own decision. Don’t come and decide for us what to do and what not to do. We are not under colonialism. So, stay in UK with your same sex marriage. I BEG U!

  21. David Cameron is devil incarnate period! O'PRIME MINISTER CAMERON WE NIGERIANS ARE NOT LIKE ESSUA OF THE BIBLE WHO SOLD HIS BIRTH RIGHT BECAUSE OF PORITAGE MEAL. ALSO LET IT BE KNOWN TO YOU THAT WITHOUT YOUR AIDS WE WILL SURVIVE OUR GOD WHOM WE FEAR AND HONOUR WILL PROVIDE US WITH BETTER ALTERNATIVES TO TACKLE WHATSOEVER PROBLEM THAT WARRANTS YOUR DEVILISH AID. EVEN IF OUR GOD WAS UNABLE TO HELP US LET IT BE KNOWN TO YOU THAT WE WILL NOT REVERT THE BILL ON GUY ISSUES PERIOD.

  23. I dey laff......
If US/UK go away with their aids, Nigeria would suffer!!!!!
Why??...we depend on them for so many things...
Right from health down to infrastructure...
Even the beneficiaries would revolt when all cards are laid bare....
I'm suprised someone talks about a Godly NIGERIA!!!!!.....
Where Corruption has eaten virtually all of our moral fabric???....
Nigeria is only a religious country where pretence is the other of the day...
Moreover, why fight for GOD....when GOD is ready, he would take judgement.....
i am not gay but i am indifferent.....
Leave gay/lesbians alone...preach to them and if they don't accept fine,.....
Legislating against it won't really do much....after all, despite the law making/laws , corruption still thrives

  24. I dont blame Cameron for his utterances. I blame GEJ for his sluggish disposition to the desires of the average Nigerian. While Nigerians were pouring kudos to NASS for passing the bill, GEJ is busy provoking the wrath of the masses by delaying the signing into law of the bill. Can someone pls tell me what is preventing GEJ from signing the bill into law? He is busy compelling Governors to sign death warrant of condemned criminals while he himself has failed to sign the death warrant of a monster called SODOMY. That is double standard. What aid for Gods sake has British got to offer Nigeria? They are battling with economic meltdown and sabottage brought upon them by Cameron and yet are talking of witholding aid. We rather go to Afghanistan for aid than the shylock good-for-nothing British deviant called Cameron. He should pls leave us alone b4 our wrath come on him and his cohort.
