Jonathan orders release of detained suspected Boko Haram members

Suspected Boko Haram members
As the military offensive to dismantle Boko Haram terrorists activities and the camps in North East Nigeria continues, President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the release from Police, SSS and Military detention centers, of hundreds of persons held in connection with the insurgency.
The action of the President which took many Nigerians and security agencies by surprise is however interpreted by presidency sources as the ‘Carrot and Stick’ policy by the Commander in Chief to bringing an end to the Boko Haram debacle.

Vanguard gathered that the beneficiaries will cut across such states as Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano, `Kaduna, Gombe and Niger, though the exact number was not revealed.

The federal government however explained that the decision to order the release is sequel to the request of the Presidential Committee in Dialogue and Reconciliation set up to explore the possibility of amnesty for converted terrorists.

A statement to that effect signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade said “Consequent upon the directives of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Defence Headquarters will be releasing from detention a number of persons being held in connection with terrorist activities”.

“The move is in furtherance of the Federal Government position in response to requests by the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Reconciliation”.

“The measure which is in line with Presidential magnanimity to enhance peace efforts in the country will result in freedom for suspects including all women under custody”.

“The details of the directives and those to benefit from this gesture have been communicated to field units and the Joint Task Force”.

“The beneficiaries will be released to the State Governors who will be involved in further rehabilitation before these suspects are released to their respective community leaders/relations”.

Hw can mr president order the release of some sect which have terrorised the country and they have also rejected dialogue. Is this not that these people are released to commit further crimes? 7. We have egg heads as rulers in this country. They should borrow a leaf from israel and america on how to treat terrorists.

If this is the type of solution the president can profer then I am not proud to be a nigerian

If there is bloodshed by boko nonsense in future, the president shall be held responsible. This time around himself and the members of his family should be prepared for the wrath of God

  8. if mr presido can other the release of detained insurgents, what will happen to the innocent nigerians killed by the sect. Mr GEJ shud know that the war is still on nd if at all he will grant them pardon, that shud be when the war in borno nd other states are over not now that soldiers are still fighting to restore peace in affected states. What am saying in a nutshel is this, any mistake once made nd realised shud never be repeated.

  12. It was not clear to us initially. After wasting enough time to handle this matter from the very beginning, now that the state of emergency has been declared, this started normalising within two weeks. Now Mr. president being a member of the sect has ordered the release of his fellow members. Pls. dont waste the military time. Let them go back to the barracks and allow your people to continue killing innocent people that voted for you. I regret your government.

  18. It seems we have a very timid President. We re gifted with puerile puppets and feable minded unwilling businessmen as leaders in this country. It cost a lot to train a soldier. The waste of souls by these miscreants called Boko Haram are treated with gross mischief by this strange order.

  20. Is this action a bid to have the support of northern people to support his re-election in 2015 as president? Why are the leaders in this country Nigeria interested in the shedding of the blood of innocent people who elected them? History will never forget and forgive the leaders and their generation any wrong and selfish decision taken in this country Nigeria. Is this fear, coward, evil or wickedness? What is the president hiding from Nigerian that he does not want Nigerian to know, that is resulting to this action that is uncalled for.

  22. The President ordered the release of women and children of BH members who are in custody in lieu of their fathers and husbands He never ordered the release of all BH members except you are planning something different with your publication If he actually ordered for the release of all BH members in jail then I will personally kill Kabiru Sokoto that killed my friend in the church bombing in Madala
GEJ please filter the views of those advising you before you act
Keep up the pounding of the BH in Borno. They will beg for the amnesty

  23. I have lost my respect for this country called Nigeria! You mean my fathers, Brothers, Sisters and Friends are at Battle Front fighting deadly war with inhuman sadist terrorists, while the President that ordered for the Emergency is releasing the same terrorist that has been arrested? So why are the Army still risking their lives at Borno, yobe and Adamawa? We still need white man to come and rule us. For which way go is HELL and We to is HELL! May God help us. Who knows, small Chad or Equotorial Guinea may demand from us 10 of our states or face their anger. Ofcourse, "for the sake of peace and the rule of law," our goverment will even surrender 15 States!

  24. It shall not be well with Jonathan and PDP.

  25. Is it unprofessional in security wise to have this suspected insurgent and terrorist that has been arrested throught some information or investigation set free. The president would have first consider the arrest of all the northern leaders that insisted on armnesty after it has been thrown to the face of the federal govt by the sect BH group by the statement that they don't it that is the federal govt that need it

    ReplyDelete
  26. all the above comments are from people outside the states where this things are happening. anybody within knows that BH are international terrorist from outside, amnesty has worked and they had been settled. the soldiers are only fighting the BH fool-hardy foot soldiers that were recruited, brainwashed AND NEVER KNOW who their sponsores are. So there is no need holding on to the children and the women afterall majority of those arrested so far are innocent.

  27. Thank U, Mr.President for ur recent decision, Nigerians should be patient in time like these and no body should push hard on President decision. GEJ have the right to decide what ever he fills good or bad in his administration. When he initiated State of Emergency no body new we were all criticising him, now he choses to release the women and children linked to this insurgents lets be patient, look Nigerian have never had a good commander in-chief like GEJ before, I plead with nigerians to be patient and keep watching why the outcome of this decision.God on our side , we will overcome terrorism in Nigeria.
