Security beef up as Jonathan visits Ikenne-Remo



Security has been beefed up in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun, ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan visit to late Obafemi Awolowo’a residence.

The President is expected at the residence of the late sage to commiserate with the family over the death Chief Oluwole Awolowo.

Awolowo, 70, the publisher of the Nigerian Tribune, died on March 27 at a London hospital.
There was heavy security around the Awolowo residence and roads leading to the residence.

Men of the Nigerian army, the Nigerian police force and the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps were located at strategic places.

Cars coming in and out of the town were subjected to thorough searching.

Only NAN correspondent, NTA crew, Channels, MITV and splash FM were allowed into the residence by the security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on Friday condoled the Awolowo family over the death.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Lagos, ACN said it received the news of the death “with great shock and much sadness.”

“Our prayer is that God will grant him eternal rest and comfort those he left behind” the party added.
The party paid tribute to late Oluwole Awolowo’s whom it observed contributed to deepening democracy and for his great efforts in sustaining Tribune newspapers. (NAN)
