Nine riot policemen injured in fresh Kano attack




A gang of gunmen, on Thursday in Kano, ambushed and injured nine riot police officers in a truck on their way to their duty posts.
 
The nine injured riot policemen have been admitted to the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital, Kano for treatment, while one of them, with severe injury, was transferred to the Dala Orthopedic Hospital for specialist treatment.
 
It was learnt that the policemen were attacked at Dorayi at about 7.30am and are now lying critically ill at the hospital, as doctors battled to save their lives.
 
Two days ago, a female police officer, Maimuna Yusuf, was also attacked and shot dead by gunmen at the GSM Village at Farm Centre, as she was fixing her car.

Meanwhile, no arrest has been made as the militants were said to have disappeared into a crowd, making difficult for other officers to confront them adequately in order to avoid civilian casualties.
It was learnt that some unspecified number of civilians, mostly passers- by, were reportedly hit by stray bullets, allegedly fired by the militants, according to spokesman for the Kako State Police Command, Magaji Majiya.
 
The scene of the attack was cordoned off immediately by the JTF and Police and combed for possible suspects. Majiya said there was no arrest yet.
 
One of the injured police victims on admission at the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital, who demanded anonymity, said but for the courage of the driver, who was able to control the truck after it was hit Several times by explosives and bullets, they would have all been killed. He said the driver’s bravery prevented the truck from somersaulting as they all laid flat to avoid been hit by bullets.
 
The Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Lagos governor, Bolaji Tinubu visited the victims in the hospital.
