Gunmen attack bank, police station, prison, others in Adamawa

Gunmen yesterday launched multiple attacks on a Divisional Police Headquarters, prison, a bank and beer parlours in Ganye town, Ganye local government area of Adamawa State.

The attackers, according to witness, used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and petrol-bombs, during the mayhem, which unsettled the residents.
Locals said the gunmen first attacked the prison, the divisional police headquarters and a second generation bank.
Ganye, a border town with Republic of Cameroon, is about 100 kilometres from Yola, the state capital.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen came in vehicles, chanting, “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar”, meaning God is great, God is great, before detonating IEDs and throwing petrol-bombs at the prison building.
He said the gunmen did not face any resistance from security agencies, as the prison building was set ablaze with explosives, although he was not certain about the number of casualties or whether some inmates were freed in the process.
The state Comptroller of Prisons, Andrew Barka, confirmed the attack.

Mr. Barka, who declined to give details of the attack, however, said he was in Yola when the incident occurred.
Also, the Adamawa Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Ibrahim confirmed but said he was yet to get the details of the attacks.
