New PDP Chairman BOT Tony Anenih, describes APC merger as ‘pack of weak blocks’

Chief Tony Anenih on Tuesday emerged as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Secretary of the BoT, Sen. Walid Jibrin, announced this to State House Correspondents after the meeting of members of the Board at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that Anenih was elected through consensus by members of the board.

Anenih, who also spoke to newsmen, expressed delight for his election and pledged to unite all members of the party.

According to him, the restructuring of the BoT is a sign that good things will start to happen in the party again.

Anenih, who was a one-time chairman of the BoT, said his second coming would witness progressive changes in the PDP.

He added that with his ascension to the position, “PDP is on the move again and cannot be stopped by any merger of political parties’’.

The chairman described the merger of some political parties in the country “as a pack of weak blocks that cannot construct an enduring edifice.

“APC is not a threat to PDP. We never had a strong opposition. Let us see how strong APC will be,’’ he said.

Anenih further pledged to work tirelessly to redeem the good image of the party.

The PDP’s BoT chairmanship has been vacant since early 2012 when former President Olusegun Obasanjo, announced his resignation from the position.

Those at the meeting include President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal.

Other were; Secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau.

Also in attendance were; Prof. Jubril Aminu, Mrs Josephine Anenih, Dr Bode Olajumoke, Don Etiebet, Prof. Jerry Gana, Banabas Gemade, Dr Kema Chikwe and Dr Hassan Adamu.
