Fire kills woman, 7-yr-old daughter in Bayelsa

Tragedy struck, Tuesday night, at the Akenfa suburb of Yenagoa,  Bayelsa State,  when a woman, aged 38 and her seven years old daughter were burnt to death by fire, which gutted their home.

The deceased woman, identified as Mrs. Elimiyegha Werinipre, was trapped in the fire while trying to rescue her daughter, Elizabeth.

It was gathered that the inferno, which started in the early hours of the day, attracted neighbours who battled in vain to put out the fire.
Though the cause of the inferno could not be immediately ascertained, some neighbours claimed there was an explosion before the fire which was suspected to have been caused by a generating set.

It was further learnt that the deceased woman’s husband, Francis,  who suffered severe burns had rushed out of the burning house with one of their kids and that on sighting the wife outside, he asked after the deceased daughter.

The alarmed wife was said to have rushed back into the burning house to rescue the daughter when the roof of the make-shift home collapsed and trapped them in the blaze.

He was reportedly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre for treatment.
