We will sue Boko Haram at International Criminal Court- Oritsejafor

CAN says it considering taking Boko Haram to the International Criminal Court.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the umbrella body of tens of millions of Nigerian Christians, said on Wednesday that it is putting plans in place to press charges against the Islamic insurgent group, Boko Haram, at the International Criminal Court.
The President of the Association, Ayo Oritsejafor, stated this at the opening of the National Executive Council Meeting of the association in Awka, Anambra State.
"We at CAN are strongly considering pressing charges against the Boko Haram sect for crimes committed against Christians at the International Criminal Court and we will commence soon," Mr. Oritsejafor said.
The Christian leader also urged the Federal Government to pronounce the sect a foreign terrorist group.
"The Federal Government should designate the Boko Haram sect as a foreign terrorist group," Mr. Oritsejafor said.
"We will not encourage Christians to carry arms, but we have always called on Christians and the churches to defend and protect themselves," he said, adding that "The way the sect is succeeding in its attacks, it is obvious that it is not done yet."
Mr. Oritsejafor alleged that some churches in the north cannot get airtime on radio and television. He challenged governors of Northern States to take positive steps towards resolving the Boko Haram crisis.
"We call on the governors of the 19 northern states to come together and hold a meeting to know the fate of their people who are being killed in the north," he said.
The CAN president called on other governors to challenge their northern counterparts to end the crisis.
"Without the measures put in place by the southern governors, there will be reprisal attacks every day. So why shouldn't the northern governors put in the same measures?" Mr. Oritsejafor asked.

  1. The solution to the threat of Boko Haram is not in suing them at the international criminal court. The solution is in the hand of president Jonathan. He knows their sponsors. They are right there under his nose. All their members that have been arrested in the past have given useful information that is sufficient to put an end to this problem. All those senators, governors and other politicians that are financing them should be prosecuted.

  5. It is surprising me the way we attack our selves on relgious ground in this Country. Imagine how people were insulting yestaday when police post a fabricated news on attack on sars building on dis media, none of them even took their time to comprehend the story well before attacking each other. Police said 40 gun men came to free 30 people, killing 2 police officers but they were aable to rearrest 25 of the escapee. The question none of these low thinking Nigerians who were attacking them selves was who counted the gun men, if they could rearrest 25 of the escapee, why not even one of the gun men, how did 40 gun men get Their despite all the security check points in Abuja? The earlier we realise that the problem in Nigeria is not Religion but CORRUPTION,and bad leaders the better for us. God bless Nigeria.oritsejafor should identify bharam members first before sueing dem, I suport the move anyway.

  6. I wonder o if CAN knws the Boko Haram to be sued. Is that the right solution to BH? Why can't CAN advice FG to have dialogue wt BH and stop these killings once and for all?

  7. It seems to me that someone wants to test drive a newly acquired PJ across continents, and to the Swiss Alps. Ride on.

  8. This man is a hypocrite. He insist that the FG should not dialogue with BH and when the heat is coming he is taking his cries to the ICJ. I think he actually means that the group can continue as long as they are associated with Islam, the greatest threat to his deception to christians. Who are you fooling when the insurgence yielded an aircraft to you all in the name of security. If there had been peace, will you have been given it?

  9. I wonder how he can sue Boko Haram. Too much enjoyment is confusing you. Don't say such thing again in the public.

  10. why wont you sue BOKO HARAM after recieving private jet, you are now talking like GEJ, you want to sue an hand robber that just finish robbing you last nigth which you dont no them

  11. Suing them is a good option bcos very soon they will come out and negotiate with FG and will eventually get amnesty. They will then go scot free for all the atrocities they committed. If however they are sued to ICC, they will have to pay dearly for their evil act even if they receive kangaroo pardon by FG. I bet you, amnesty for BH is going to be one of the many bribes that GEJ may offer North to soften ground for 2015 election in his favour. Let CAN go ahead. Mind you, CAN said they are considering that option. When the plan is well reasoned out, they can go ahead with the process.

  12. If Boko haram is carried to Int'l Court of justice, international task force(UN Force) can be deployed to Nigeria.
