Sokoto State Governor Flogs PHCN Manager with "Koboko" (Horse Whip) until he became unconscious

Governor of Sokoto State, Northwest Nigeria, Aliyu Wamakko, has allegedly flogged a manager of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, for failing to supply electricity to his community.

Premium Times, an online news portal reports that the governor flogged the manager and ordered his security officials to assault two other PHCN staff.

The management of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KEDC, a subsidiary of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, accused the Governor of assaulting the workers.

The Acting Managing Director of the Company, Mohammed Adamu, made this known at a press briefing late Monday at the company’s Doka office in Kaduna.

Mr. Adamu explained that the staff was summoned by the governor and was beaten to a pulp by the Governor and some of his aides.

“On Saturday, 20th October, 2012, an unusual and unfortunate event took place which was beyond our comprehension. On the said date our business manager, Gwiwa Business Unit, Sokoto state, Moses Osigwe, was invited by the Executive Governor of the State, Aliyu Magatarkada Wamakko to his personal residence, over the issue of lack of power supply to his hometown, Wamakko, as a result of a failed 2.5MVA transformer.

“He accused our staff of deliberately denying his community, Wamakko, of power supply. As the business manager was trying to explain to him, the governor just brought out a horse whip (popularly known as bulala in Hausa language or Koboko) and lashed him to a pulp,” Mr. Adamu said.

The PHCN boss said the governor’s brutality did not stop at being the direct aggressor, “as he also invited and instructed two hefty mobile police men to continue with the beating spree until the business manager fell on the ground and became unconscious.”

“In the same vain, the Governor did not stop at the beating of our business manager but invited two other staff of the company namely, Isyaku Daura, Officer 2 (Electrical) and Nuruddeen Mohammed, Staff 1 (Lines) and ordered the mobile policemen to beat them up, also to a pulp,” he lamented.
He described the governor’s action as uncalled for, barbaric, and uncivilised.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Sokoto state Governor, Sani Umar, when contacted on phone told reporters that he was driving and would call back. He was yet to do so as at the time of this report.

  14. God will deal with the Gov for this barbaric act of his. How many times has he failed in his own duties as the Gov of Sokoto?

He's only angry because of his own interest in that community (ie his own resident) and not the interest of the whole community as it were.

Is he interested in other communities in the state without power supply?

His own punishment is going to be bigger than the one he melted on these men.

    ReplyDelete
  15. So because of your community alone, nde governor? That is so sad. So if your community had light and the other community had no light would you still do that?

Anyway, Nigerians can be funny at times. Probably these guys had issues with the governor or the government and decided to air their issues by sending him a subtle message.

If so, we really need more kobokos. If these PHCN bozos are doing their jobs, why would we be privatizing power? As soon as they are employed by these private companies, these bozos will start doing their jobs.

  16. The gov's action is unlawfull n uncivilised . must he resort to physical combat or assault before he can xpress his disappoint, it is crude n rude.He didnot talk about other parts of the state that lack the supply of electricity but only his community selfish governor. I am disappointed at our policemen for their unprofessional conducts, they are now 'agboro' boys instead of maintain law n order they are been use to undermine rule of law, what a mess.

  17. All the NEPA managers in this naija desrves koboko. Imagine paying huge NEPA bills every month and you are not having light. That is good for them.

  18. If it is indeed true that Gov. Wamakko of Sokoto actually did this, then he is not different from the mob in Aluu community who burnt 4 students. He has demonstrated to people of his state to physically deal with non performing officials, so if the people are not satisfied with his performance they are free to horsewhip him.

  19. I'm so disappointed with all the comments I've read here. I implore the PHCN staff involved to sue the governor for assault. It is barbaric and despicable. the least expected of a governor of a state in Nigeria at this point in history!

  24. In this modern times, there is only one course of action for the Bush man who sits in the state house - suspend him from duty, and sue him without waste of time. It's a pity the police who should be filing a criminal suit against the mad man were also involved in this debacle. My dearest hope is this report is false. I can't imagine a situation like this in the 21st Century Nigeria. We barely forgave the military who are trained to be physical. We must all roundly condemn this act if it were true, and let the rule of law prevail.

  25. What we Nigerians get from these NEPA staff are more than Koboko. So, the way they take light at will matches the way this Governor dealt with them.
If people of his State see him looting them, they can do the same to him.

  29. Yes it is true that PHCN has performed poorly, but d problem is not actually d guys in PHCN; it is a systemic problem which Gov Wamakko is a part of. I advice d guy to sue immediately.

  33. Good job Governor Aliyu Wamakko. I wish dat all d PHCN managers n staffs in Nigeria will be flogged n dealt with just as u did to d PHCN business manager n staff of PHCN in ur state for failure to supply electricity. How can they hold d whole nigeria at large to ransom. Setting d system of government aside, PHCN is d cause of all major downfall n set backs we have in nigeria.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko, I twale for u joo. Anybody wey prosecute u no well.

  34. Take a look at Benin Republic, we term them to be inferior to Nigeria, but despite Nigeria being d country supplying dem electricity n feul, they have 24 hours uniterrupted power supply all year round n low cost of living.

  35. It is unimaginable that a serving governor of this country who suppose to be "Gentle man" and Honourable" will condescend so low to the point of assaulting a public officer. There are better ways of getting things done which of course beating a fellow public servant is non of it. The governor has just "whip" himself out of office. Hope the Federal Executives will take appropriate action against this governor.

  36. take it or leave it. let the truth be said. must we follow due process to solve our problems? Gov Alu well done!!!!!! PHCN is an embarrassment to this country. i wish our leaders would put an end to all this corruption.
