Patience Jonathan diagnosed with ruptured appendicitis

Nigeria’s first lady is being treated for ruptured appendicitis in Germany, Online media, Premium Times gathered

Mum is the word at Aso Rock, seat of the Nigerian presidency, as state officials resort to silence in disclosing the health status of the First lady, Patience Jonathan, who is undergoing treatment at a German hospital.

Authoritative presidency sources, Tuesday, told PREMIUM TIMES that Mrs. Jonathan is receiving treatment for “ruptured appendicitis.” A source said the matter worsened because health officials erred in managing her illness and thought she had food poisoning.

Last night media aides to the first lady did not respond to a request by the Associated Press (AP) to comment on the situation. But a government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, to the AP, held that the first lady is being hospitalised for food poisoning.

According to the government official, Mrs. Jonathan fell sick about 10 days ago, after she hosted a summit of first ladies from across Africa.

Ayo Osinlu, the first lady’s spokesman, also did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

  1. Why is sickness something that should be kept from the public? I dont understand, do people in the Aso Rock think they can defy nature as they successfully defied the Nigerian citizens' request for being carried along in governance? Or perhaps their is more to it than the sickness. In Nigeria it is easy to sanction news agencies reporting this kind of stories but as it is today, the US based online news agencies cant even be scorned at. So much for the average Nigerian to have to hear it from across the world than from his home country when he is actually in his home land.

  4. Get well soon Mrs Patience Jonathan. You are very lucky to be receiving the best medical care in Germany for your sickness. Millions of Nigerians do not have the opportunity to be treated with first class facilities and luxury. The best medical care in Nigeria was able to diagnose food poisoning and 'erred in managing her illness'. It is now evidently clear that Nigeria medical system is a death trap. What hope has the common man?
