Our Bank sent thieves to rob us of the money we just collected - Couple

A couple who withdrew the sum of N450,000 from a branch of a new generation bank in Ado Ekiti but lost the money to thieves have raised an alarm over the circumstances that led to the loss, alleging that some of the bank officials may have colluded with the criminals to steal the money.

The couple, Dr. Tunde and Mrs. Josephine Akindele told newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday that they came from Ife in Osun State last week on a visit to their relations at Ijelu farmstead in Ado Ekiti.

According to Mrs. Akindele; “At the bank, I asked for withdrawal form but a lady at the counter said I should use the ATM, which twice did not pay.

”She added that the lady across the counter contacted the “computer operator,” to work on the computer system while making a telephone call.

According to her, she was eventually paid cash by the cashier, adding that she took the money and kept it in a safe in her car.

.“We left the bank premises for our father in law's House"

She further explained that after seeing their father-in-law, they came out to find that their car had been vandalised and the money had been taken away

.“We also discovered that our mobile handsets, my handbag and some cash on the car seat were not touched by the thieves,” she said.

N/E learnt from a source that three workers of the new generation bank in Ado-Ekiti have been arrested by the police for alleged theft of N450,000 from a couple.

  1. incoherent story. what's the connection with the bank staff with the theft in her car? can the ATMs pay 450k? what has the presence of the father inlaw got to do with anything?

  8. Stories like this could discourage readers of your pieces like us from taking a glance at your pages. Your editors should do a better job. Journalism and gossip don't have much in common....Chris Abara

  9. A similar incident like this happened in calabar recently. The paying cashier had accomplices that she called giving a description of the customer and the amount withdrawn. The customer was smart however to rush to the bank immediately and raised alarm that he suspected the cashier. The manager told her to bring her phone so they can check her call logs.unfortunately for her,the thieves were calling her to brief her that the operation went well. The manager told her to pick her call and put it on speaker. Thats how the cat was let out of the bag. I advise customers to be smart and vigilant when making withdrawals.

  11. From the story we learn you been vigilant, clever, when withdrew money. May be someone in the bank saw you when withdrawing and follow u. Bcos no gun use bt that your inlaw place is a remote area. Let police start investigation from your inlaw place than arresting busy bankers that assist you in the bank
