JTF kills 4 Boko Haram suspects, recover arms underground in Maiduguri


Following a dawn raid in many parts of Maiduguri, the Joint Task Force (JTF)said it killed four members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, a.k.a. Boko Haram, arrested 3 others and thereafter mopped up large consignment of arms kept underground a building.
The Operation took place at Dala, a notorious suburb in the state capital, when most residents were fast asleep.

The JTF’s spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, attributed the successes of security operatives to the moles planted in the Boko Haram by various security agents as well as the increased willingness of the civilians who are now volunteering information.

A statement signed by the spokesman, which was given to newsmen yesterday, said a cordon and search operation was carried out on Saturday in many parts of Maiduguri.
“Based on intelligence report, a search was conducted in Dala area which resulted in massive recovery of arms, ammunitions and IEDs hidden underground in a house.
“Also, 3 identified Boko Haram terrorists were arrested, while 4 were killed in Gamboru area of Maiduguri,” he said.
He said items recovered by the JTF during the operations include: 2 AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube, 3 RPG chargers, 3 G3 rifles, one FNC rifle, 4 pump action gun, 2 locally made pistols, 3 teargas launchers, one smoke pistol, 34 teargas canisters, 3 tear gas grenade, 1.5m detonating cord, one IED cylinder, magazines of FNC rifle, 22 assorted empty magazines, 1,045 assorted ammunitions and 12 assorted GSM handsets.
Other items recovered at the hideout, according to him include: 4 rifle cleaning kits, one laptop computer, 2 handheld metal detectors, one fragment jacket, 8 magazine holders and 100 litres of drum containing incendiary materials.
