Housemaid charged to court for allegedly stealing employers’ N35.1m




A 30-year-old housemaid, Mary John, was on Friday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing her employer’s money and belongings, worth N35.1 million.

The accused, who resides with her employer, Esohe Kadiri, at Road 2, House G 93a, Victoria Garden City, Ajah, Lagos, was arraigned on three-count charges of felony, stealing and burglary, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Prosecutor Innocent Effiong said that the offences were committed between July 18 and August 9.
Effiong said that the accused allegedly stole her employer’s wrist watches, bangles, bracelets, diamond set, rings, necklaces, pendants and camera all valued N35.1 million.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 409, 306, 305 and 278 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. C.T. Adesola-Ikpatt, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till October 17, for further hearing.
