Buhari dismisses S’South endorsement of Jonathan

Former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has said President Goodluck Jonathan cannot win in a free and fair election in 2015 presidential poll.

The Congress for Progressive Change candidate for the 2011 presidential election said Jonathan’s adoption by some leaders of the South-South should not be taken seriously.

Buhari spoke in his Kaduna residence when he received the party’s governorship candidate for the October 20 election in Ondo State, Mr. Soji Ehinlanwo.

Ehinlanwo was accompanied to Buhari’s home by the CPC National Publicity Secretary, Rotimi Fashakin, and other party officials.

The former head of state said, “I don’t take the decision of South-south leaders seriously. The South-South people said it is Jonathan or nothing; I know they are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, let them vote for him.

“In a free and fair election, let us see if they can give him the ticket against other geo-political zones. Let them give him the primary ticket first. Let them vote for him when 2015 comes and let us see if he would win.”

He urged the elite to participate in the 2015 election to ensure that election was free and fair.
He added, “It is also up to the elite to participate and ensure that elections are free and fair. It is not necessary for them to be card-carrying members of political parties. They know how to participate; they should not sit and look. They can go to their constituencies to identify and enlighten their people on the need to entrench free and fair election to stabilise the country.”

Buhari said it was only in Nigeria that people who worked for 10 to 35 years retire and die queuing to collect their entitlements.

He also lamented the non-prosecution of those indicted in the pension, subsidy and other fraud, saying “this can only happen in Nigeria”.
The CPC chief added, “Why are those officials not prosecuted to retrieve the stolen money? It is only in Nigeria that fraud of this magnitude takes place and this incompetent government is doing nothing about it.”

  1. If only Buhari would recognize his delusion, he would understand that the sycophancy around him does not speak for the overwhelming majority of the Northern electorate and indeed all Nigerians. GEJ may not win the next election but he would certainly not loose to Buhari. Nigerians would ensure that..

  8. Why all these noise from Buhari, don’t you see Babangida and Obasanjo as they respect themselves in this country or are they not former Nigerians’ past leaders. Obasanjo is a leader; Babangida is a leader in respective of their shortcomings, these are the people you can still have one reasonable remark to talk about but Buhari you are too full of empty noise by using boko haram to disorganize Nigeria but, one thing I want to tell you is that there is God who can fight all battles no matter how long, God will release his judgment to whosoever that does not want the progress of this country, please find something else to do so that your name will not be erase or replace with something else from world book of record. I beg we are tired of your complain. There is nothing you will do to win Nigeria People’s love again because majority of the people of Nigerians’ are not happy with you no matter how you want to convince or change peoples’ opinion for it is too late to cry when the head is off, du Allah, biko, e jo, please!.

  9. Buhari has every right to maintain his opposition position. He is not a psycho and all of us are living witnesses that Jonathan was rigged into office. The plain truth is that were Buhari to be president he will uproot corruption and most of our socalled leaders will not go scot free. Tell GEJ to declare his assets as he has shown his incompetency in fighting corruption.

  13. I diligently went through all your comments about Buhari, without mincing words having people like you that can not read between the lines in this country is the most henious thing that can happen to a nation. Do we hv any thing to write home about in this country presently given the ongoing administration with the policy of winners take all! Buhari as an opposition leader has right to oppose the rulling part where necessary. History is there to judge everyone but mind u, u r speaking for your self not Nigerians.
