Why I wept openly for Nigeria – Buhari

A former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has said the appalling state of Nigeria and the hardship of the citizens in the midst of abundance compelled him to weep openly for the nation in 2011.

Buhari said this while addressing journalists during his visit to the headquarters of his political party, the Congress for Progressive Change at Utako in Abuja on Thursday.

Buhari, who was the CPC’s presidential candidate in the 2011 election, said he wept when he looked at the way the country was blessed by God, but its citizens were poor.

He said, “This is a country that is well-blessed both materially and otherwise. God has blessed us more than we expected. We have so much land for agriculture.

“But majority of Nigerians can’t send their children to school, can’t afford medicine for their children, and no potable water to drink. Where does the money go to?

“This was why I broke down when I was rounding off up my presidential campaign in 2011.”

Buhari added that he became a democrat when the old Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, a development he said changed his political belief.

“That was the time I became a democrat because I believed that democratic system is superior to any form of governance. Otherwise how can an empire collapse like that,” he said.

He took a swipe at the one year old regime of President Goodluck Jonathan and declared that the country was retrogressing.

He argued that with the level of corruption in the country and the poverty level of majority of Nigerians, there was nothing to show that the country was moving forward.

Buhari weeping
Crying for Nigeria?
Buhari said, “From the level of exporter we have moved to the level of importer of oil? Are you surprised? All the infrastructure were allowed to die and decay.

“And now they say they want to remove subsidy. I was there when the refineries were built with Nigeria money and we didn’t borrow any kobo to do that.

“Now we have ended up buying fuel from the world market. I believe that God will punish those who have perpetuate corruption in this country and put us where we are today.

“I think we are reversing. With what is happening in the petroleum industry and all the corruption, we are reversing. You know about the pension scam?”

AMEN. And God Almighty will punish all those who call their supporters to kill other Nigerians because of their ambition.

May the Almighty God punish the leaders who think that they can burn and maim because of their religion.

    AMEN!

  3. The problem we have in Nigeria is the ignorance of the people. Above all, the ignorant people claim to be aware of the facts about the failures in the country.

  7. From the first two comments above, I can say authoritatively that some Nigerians are still yet to realise our past mistakes of voting forregionsl sentiment or for religious aparthy. If we are still posting these Ind comments after all what this so called fresh air transformation is turning into, then I say that some Nigerians are not fed up with the high level of poverty q d corruption in our country. I rest my case.

  8. Nigerians are sufering and smilling,Time has come that these change must be forced on this country to wipe away the corruptions. From the first comment,it shows that Nigeria has a long way to go.I don't blame that person,in the days of slave trade when those that brought the urgly incedent to us realise that it was bad to humanity some Nigerians were still doing it.We need revolution in this country and this GEJ will be the last president to romance corruption in Nigeria.2015 the dog and baboon will definattly swim in pool of blood if the right thing is not done.

  9. Buhari has got nothing 2 offer Nigerians, he was given free hand to perform doing his regime as a head of state, but cant show for it rather Idiagbon was eliminated for is incapability. is it now that he is weeping for himself and not Nigeria, Moreover we don't want a religious fanatic for this country.

He should follow the steps of Shagagi, Gowon and co whom a praying for the country.

Fellow Nigerians, it is a pity most of us have allowed devils among politicians in this country to fool them. These people never ask themselves what percentage of those in Abuja or state capital claiming to be representing us ever refused to take criminal salaries or allowances their colleagues are taking?
Buhari said "refineries were built with Nigeria money and we didn’t borrow any kobo to do that". OBJ asked FG last time the where about the huge money his administration left behind in 2007. Why is FG thinking of borrowing money now if there is any love for this country?
Why are some people mixing Buhari's ethnicity with his patriotic comments on Nigeria issue?
FG is banning importation rice and other items available here in Nigeria but never think of destruction importation of refined oil is doing to Nigeria.
Let us all fear the Almighty God whenever we are discussing this great nation.
Long live Nigeria! Long live Patriotic Nigerians!!

  13. It is on record that Buhari's PTF regime contributed immensely to the betterment of Nigeria. If given the chance to rule Nigeria, I believe he will ask IBB and his cohorts what they did with our money even the present leadership will be called to question especially about the electricity, fuel importation subsidies and the rest. Like it or not, Buhari is the man for now and my candidate for 2015. Dee South South man said so.

  14. Buhari you are the one to answer this questions, you know that this is a country that is well blessed both materially and all that and since you also know that majority of Nigeria cannot send their children to school and can't afford medicine for their children and also no potable water to drink because of lack of finance and you also asked "where does the money go to? Buhari you are the one we will question this, your crying can not solve the problem because the corruption started during your regime with all your pals. you know where all the money is so go back and gather them come so that the problems will at least get a beat better. see am sure your not crying so that you can win the heart of people to come back for the next election. Good Nigerians be wise oh!.

  15. Why are we still deceiving ourselves of so called Patriotic Nigerians, neither Buhari nor GEJ nor any, are qualify to rule a nation of such of our own-NIGERIA.
if u are a Christian, Holy Bible put it clear: 2 Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here,2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away. For this reason, All human Government are Animal as Bible described in the Book of Jeremiah, what then are we expecting from animal? Let Just Pray as Jesus command "Let Your Kingdom Come"

  17. Buhari has spoken his mind and we can all agree that he is saying the truth. However i can not blame those who did not see any good thing in him because they might not be born during his short regime.I know very soon we would see who is fooling Nigerians but one thing i know is no sinner will go unpunished.

  18. I am not here to support or oppose anyone. We all have our strength and weakness. But, I think I will rather support a candidate that will perform despite his religion, tribe and the rest than my relation or religion member that will bring hardship to the people. We need to remove useless sentiments.

  19. i am certain what we need in Nigeria is change rather than recyclin leadership cos its like we not learning from the past . whether Buhari or GEJ they not what the country needs. we need sum1 wth a firm and radical political ideology and can look corruption in the face cos he is not tainted wth illegality. without dat den a revolution looms. cos without the leadership that can steer the revolution, the people would, its only a matter of time cos the hardship is bitting..............

  20. If the crocodile can eat its own egg what shall it not do with the flesh of a frog. Can the vampire donate blood to revive its victim? Any instrument designed for destruction can never be better than destructive, the devil can only be at if only in hell. show me a shepherd that devours it sheep then i can show you a lead that kills it followers for selfish reasons. if you can show me a vampire that cries before its prey then i can show you the a failure who cries cos it cldn't get its target when it celebrated last. Show me a hopeless generation then i can show you the people who expect help from their dead father in the grave. For those who believe that their yesterday is coming back as their next tomorrow should better wake up from sleep or remaining dead dreaming.

Can darkness outshine light maybe in hell, whatever u say & believe is what you are.plz help me tell the rain maker that he left his basin of salt uncovered outside. Go tell Solomon that the man who is wiser than him is here so He was...

To the man crying over his sins, go & sin no more as we look forward to seeing you turn to a new leave maybe the country will hear less of these maiming and explosives meant to distract our focus.

  21. The country is no doubt getting worse, but why most of us will not support Buhari is the fact that he is contemptuous of other and has shown that he is ready to render the country if he did not make his way to Aso Rock. He never prayed well for the country anytime evil men strike and kill innocent people. He will say such will continue until justice is embraced. tell me is there no injustice in the country before Buhari contest ? Have any one ever heard him condemn the spate of terror attacks on innocent Nigerians ? Is this his revolution ?
