Wife Sends Husband Packing

A Grade ‘B’ Customary Court in Oshodi, Lagos, on Tuesday heard how a wife sent her husband out of their matrimonial home.

The petitioner, Paul Iwu, narrated his ordeal when he took his wife, Faustina, to the court and asked for the dissolution of their five-year-old union.
Iwu, 42, told the court that Faustina sent him out of their matrimonial home and seized all his property and two shops.

He said his wife told him that she had found a new husband and as such he decided to ask for a divorce.
He also alleged that Faustina constantly quarrelled and threatened him, adding that she had constituted a nuisance.

“I want the court to dissolve this marriage because she does not respect me anymore and there is no more love between us,” Iwu said.
Counsel to the petitioner, Chief N.E. Ifediora, informed the court that counsel to the respondent had just served him the claims for his client.

Ifediora, therefore, prayed the court for a short adjournment to enable him to go through the claims and file a reply.
He also pleaded with the court to rule that Iwu should return to his matrimonial home as he had been dislocated by the wife’s action.

He also asked the court to rule that Iwu’s two shops and property seized by his wife be returned to him.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there is no child between the couple who resides at 7, Odewusi Close, Oshodi.
Faustina, 32, however, denied the allegations by her husband but told the court that she was ready for the divorce.

Her counsel, Mr. K.A. Idowu, told the court that his client was a peace loving wife and that she and not the petitioner paid the rent of the house in question.
Idowu agreed to the adjournment in order for the plaintiff to file a reply to his client’s claims.

The Acting Court President, Mrs. R.I. Adetola, adjourned the matter till May 28 to enable the petitioner file his reply. .
She said that since both parties had agreed to the dissolution of the union, trial would commence immediately.
