Nigeria has become laughing stock – Senate President

Senate President David Mark said, yesterday, stated that Nigeria has now become a laughing stock among the comity of nations due to the In-ability of the government to curb the re-occurring cases of Bomb blasts in the country which has led to the death of thousands, and also brought a very high level of in-security in the country.

The Senate President who reiterated that the act is condemnable, uncalled for and clearly avoidable, stressed that no matter the level of anger or grievances in a man’s mind, taking the life of another cannot provide a solution, adding, “this is ungodly. It is inhuman and does not enjoy the support of any right-thinking member of the society.”

Reacting to the latest bomb attack at Bayero University, Kano in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark who called on religious leaders across the divide to unite against these forces of evil, said, “we must collectively rise against the perpetrators of violence taking the lives of our people and property at will unchallenged, because no one knows the next victim.”

He also tasked the security operatives to collaborate with one another and redefine their strategies that would bring positive results, just as he sympathized with the victims and asked all Nigerians to brace up to the challenge in order to stop this menace.

Meanwhile, Senator Mark has sent a message of condolence to the governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole over the fatal accident at Auchi which claimed the lives of three journalists and left several others injured.

In the condolence message, Senator Mark prayed for the soul of the deceased and quick recovery of the injured, adding that the deceased died in their line of duty and tasked the governor, the managements of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Independent Television ( ITV) to ensure that the victims did not die in vain.

Senator Mark also consoled the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the death of their colleagues and enjoined them not to be deterred by the set back as the nation still relies on them to provide the needed road map for socio- economic and political transformation.
