FRSC recovers N4.09m from accident scene

The Federal Road Safety Corps, RS 2.11, Badagry Unit Command, has recovered the sum of N4.09m from the scene of an accident along Badagry-Seme Expressway on Saturday.

The accident, which occurred in front of the FRSC office around 2pm, involved only a blue Honda Accord 2003 with number plate APP 388 AE.




It was learnt that the driver, who was the only occupant, was overspeeding when the vehicle veered off the road.

FRSC officials at the scene said the cash it carried scattered all over the road.
The money recovered was handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer of Badagry Division, Mr. Oni (Superintendent of Police) in the presence of the crash victim, Christian Onyenora.

The Unit Commander, Mr. Mato Zubairu, in a statement on Sunday, said although the accident victim was conscious, the money was handed over to the police because area boys who had gathered at the scene were ready to collect the money from the victim.

“We had to call in the police when the area boys came to the scene and were about to start fomenting trouble. The cash was handed over to the police,” he said.

A source at the divisional office of the police in the area, later confirmed to our correspondent that the money was indeed received by the police.

“The DPO is going to present a full report on the issue to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, on Monday (today). The issue will be comprehensively investigated by the police,” he said.
