Blame Rise Of Boko Haram Attacks On PDP – Azazi

The National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoye Azazi has blamed the rise of insurgence by the fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram in the country on the internal wranglings of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties.

The retired General made this known during the second day of the South-south economic summit where the collapse of the nation’s security challenge was deliberated on.

Tracing the rise of Boko Haram’s attack, the chief security adviser to the president stated that “the extent of violence did not increase in Nigeria until when there was a declaration by the current president that he was going to contest.”

“ PDP got it wrong from the beginning, by saying Mr. A can rule, Mr. A cannot rule…. according to PDP’s convention, rules and regulations and not according to the constitution and that created the climate for what has manifested itself in this way.” He said.

The PDP, in its reaction, said that the NSA was “quoted out of contest.” National publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, maintained that the party is against terrorism, the activities of Boko Haram and all it represents.

He said “I am sure that the NSA must have been quoted out of context, as am not too sure he said that. Nevertheless, NSA is not a politician and so might not be able to understand the intricacies of politics within our political party.”

The NSA had also told his audience that the bombings, suicide attacks and jail breaks that have been raging in the northern part of the country “could be traced to the politics of exclusion of the PDP in the region.”
Azazi also gave thumbs down to the PDP’s belief in anointing candidates and the “do or die” attitude of the party. He also asked why “it is possible that somebody was thinking that only Mr. A could win, and that if he could not win, there would be problems in this society.”

Speaking further, the NSA said, “Let’s examine all these issues to see whether the level of violence in the north-east just escalated because Boko Haram suddenly became better trained, better equipped and better funded, or something else was responsible”.

Azazi said that even if all the leaders of Boko Haram were arrested, it would not bring to an end the problem as, according to him, “there are tentacles. I don’t think that people would be satisfied because the situations that created the problems are not just about religion, poverty or the desire to rule Nigeria. I think it’s a combination of everything. Except you address all those things comprehensively, it would not work.”

The security adviser frowned at the use of force to quell the insurgency in the north, as he called for a collective effort to address the economic problems of the region.

‘It is not enough for us to have a problem in 2009 and you send soldiers to stop the situation, then tomorrow you drive everybody underground. You must look at the structures you need to put in place to address the problem holistically. There are economic problems in the north, which are not the exclusive prerogative of the northerners. We must solve our problems as a country” he stated.

Jonathan to summon Azazi for linking PDP with bombings

President Goodluck Jonathan however indicated his willingness to summon the National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi (retd), for linking the Peoples Democratic Party with the spate of bombings in the country.

Jonathan also said Nigerians should demand from Azazi what he meant by the statement.

The President said, “Probably, people need to ask the NSA to explain what he really means. I have read it in the papers.”

  1. The truth is very bitter, always very bitter. Azzazi has said it the way it is, I will not be surprised if PDP decides to quarantine him or possibly exterminate him. Dirty politics and poor governance coupled with our politicians' greed and corrupt tenets are the cause of every social unrest we keep having in this country, religion has never been our problem. The earlier our politicians realize this and make amends, the better. It's a pity these terror groups are killing innocent Nigerians rather than going for the politicians and policy makers proper. I know Nigerians will support any group that comes out hard on these thieving politicians who are never ready to change their dirty habits. PDP should examine Azzazi's comments and take steps to clean its dirty styles rather than do anything to ridicule this truthful General.

  4. I was shocked hearing this from Gen. Azazi. I was thinking it is only the likes of Gen. Ishola Williams, Gen. Malu, Gen Benjamin and few of them that can easily get a fact articulated.

Wonderful, Gen. Aziza I appreciate you for saying the truth. Truth is said to be bitter; PDP knows everything about Bokoharam including the founder, financing and the reasons for the sect, but for the fact that the party is made up of a lot evil men they will never say the fact to Nigerians.

Nigerians don't want PDP unless rigging as usual; this singular act is dragging the country in to the state of anarchy.

Olisa metu is good in saying rubbish; a liar that called himself lawyer. He is the likes of that judge that tried Ibori with 1,000,000,000 count charges and said no offense was committed; disgraced to Nigerian judicial system.

PDP, Nigerians don't need your truth, just keep sacrificing your party with innocent blood of Nigerians, One day Nigerians shall rise and fight for themselves.

Azazi, you are a blessed to this generation. We little ones are watching. History shall remain the records of past events.

  6. PDP is modern day Ali Baba and 4 million or more thieves. Decentralize federal to regional government without much allocation to a central looting and a lot of issues would straighten out.
