Court remands husband for killing wife over food

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday ordered that a man, Odion Ukhoria, should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly killing his wife.

Ukhoria, 41, whose plea was not taken, is facing a charge of murder, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The Magistrate, Mrs. F.M. Kayode, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The prosecutor, Insp. Gift Nyeche, had earlier told the court that the accused allegedly beat his wife, Ifeoma, to death following a quarrel over food.

“The accused beat his wife to death after she had refused to prepare eba (gari) for his lunch,” he said.

Nyeche said the offence, which was committed at their residence at 2, Olusola Close, Abule Taylor, Abule-Egba, at about 2.30 p.m. on February 19, 2012 contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Shole Ojeriakhi, urged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying the accused may have done it out of annoyance.

The case was adjourned till April 1, pending advice from the DPP

  1. let him go for the punishment, can't him control his anger? you see the result of bad anger simply because of eba. This is how an ibo man stab and killed a yoruba man over a girl friend at Tin-Can Apapa last week Friday all in the name of anger but luck ran out of the ibo man that stab the yourba man because the area boys around or labour group descended on the ibo man until they are sure he gave up the ghost, this is food for tot, we should ask the holy spirit to help our weaknesses in Jesus name amen..
