President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the African Union summit.

He arrived at the Addis Ababa International Airport, about 3.30 pm Nigerian time, aboard a presidential jet, in company with his wife, Patience, and some top government officials.

The President was received by officials of the Nigerian Embassy and representatives of the Nigerian community in Ethiopia.

While in Addis Ababa, Jonathan is expected to present a paper to the summit of the New Partnership for Africa's Development Heads of State.

He is expected to present another paper on the theme of the AU summit, which is entitled 'Boosting Intra-African Trade.'

Also, the President will be present at the inauguration of the new AUC Conference and Office Complex, as well as attend a banquet to be hosted by the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Ato Meles Zenawi.

Jonathan's wife will attend all the programmes lined up for African First Ladies during the summit.

One of the highlights of the summit will be the election of a new chairman for the AU.

The position has already been zoned to West Africa and the Heads of government of West African countries are already rooting for Jonathan to emerge the chairman.

The President and his delegation are expected to be back in Nigeria on Monday.
