A Professor  of Peace  and Conflict Studies at the  University  of Ibadan,  Professor Isaac  Albert, has attributed  the Boko  Haram crisis  in Nigeria  and other security  challenges  in Africa  to lack of capacity to respond to the issue  of sustainable development in the  continent.
Albert, who  made the disclosure in a key note address  at  a conference organised by Faculty  of Law,  University  of  Ilorin on Thursday  titled “Law  and Sustainable  Development in Africa, “   also  noted that  the continent  is not ready to  listen to the  people yearning for social change .

According to him,   ‘’environmental  sustainability  is not possible  in an atmosphere  of destructive conflict because without peace, there will be no sustainable   development  and without sustainable development there can be no peace. ‘’
He  said in any society where rule of law is not in  practice, there can be no sustainable development  ,adding that where people  are not ready to abide by  the law  or rules of the land there can be no peace but anarchy. Albert added that  when  there is no true democracy, justice  and good governance   there can be no sustainable  development.
He maintained that  as one moved from one African country to the other, one finds complaints, noting that most of them  believe they had better developmental index during the colonial masters than   after   the independence .
He  noted that today, "we are living in a society that is not sustainable   with proliferation of non-state armed group ,like Boko Hram , the Muslim brotherhood, Niger-Delta militants  among others."
In his remark , Vice  Chancellor,  University of Ilorin, Professor  Ishaq  Oloyede,  who was represented  by the Vice Chancellor, Management Services, Professor Albert Olayemi,  commended  the Faculty of Law of the university for being in the  forefront  on the war against  unsustainable  development , including climate change. He  said the ruthless development happening out of  ignorance is a  serious challenge to mankind.
