Dangote’s Ibese Plant Targets 10,000 Jobs
No less than ten thousand job opportunities are on the way with the coming on stream of planned launching of the new six million tonnes-per-annum Ibese plant of the Dangote Cement, due for launch by President Goodluck Jonathan.
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, who disclosed this, said the opportunities would come both through direct and indirectly jobs.
He also promised to continue to lead other investors to ensure Nigeria becomes an industrial giant that is self-sufficient in production; rather than being a leader in importations.
Dangote assured that with his Group’s massive investments in the cement production, not only will Nigerians enjoy reduced price stability, the nation will become exporter of the commodity to other countries.
He spoke to the media after he conducted the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun round the six-million-tonnes per annum capacity Dangote Cement new plant in Ibese, near Ilaro in Ogun state.
He said his continuous investment in Nigeria and the rest of Africa was borne out of the fact that the country was a fertile ground for investment and that no one outside Africa would be genuinely determined to develop Africa except African themselves.
He explained the efforts put into the multi-million dollar plant as worthy when perceived from the standpoint of the fact that there is the need for job and wealth creation in the country, adding that these two critical necessities could only be achieved through manufacturing.
The Dangote President pledged that he would look into other areas where the group could further create jobs and wealth for the citizenry, saying agriculture holds the ace and that he has invested in some other areas in agriculture like fertilizer, to help the farmers and to provide jobs.
While striving to create an industrial giant nation through investments in manufacturing, Alhaji Dangote appealed to the state government to help in the provision of security for the investments, saying though the host community of Ibese and others have been very cooperative, government should help in putting in place security arrangements for the business to thrive.
He had earlier made a presentation to the governor on the birth of the new cement plant, noting that with the new Ibese plant, Dangote cement has become the largest producer of cement in the country and that the journey to self-sufficiency was almost completed with the Dangote Benue and Obajana cement plants already in full productions.
He disclosed that the national consumption hovered around 18 million tonnes per annum and that by the first quarter of next year, all the cement companies in the country would have been producing up to 20 tonnes per annum with the Dangote cement accounting for over 70 per cent of it.
On the Corporate Social Responsibility of the group, Dangote stated that his company was noted for being a good neighbour, saying that everywhere the group has company, it has always taken over the provision of infrastructure for the communities, promising that Ibese would not be an exception.
Earlier, governor Amosun, while responding to the presentation, commended Alhaji Dangote for his giant strides in manufacturing, adding that Ogun state would be eternally grateful for the foremost entrepreneur for his investments in Ogun state.
However, Senator Amosun stated that citing the companies in Ogun state was not enough but ensuring that all employees who reside in the state but work in other states pay their taxes into the coffer of Ogun state government, adding that it was only then that the state government could meet its obligations to the citizenry whether corporate or individuals.
He said his administration would be ready to play its own part by providing the necessary security of investments and infrastructure needed to keep the manufacturing companies functioning to the maximum capacity.
Governor Amosun promised that to further boost businesses in the cement plant area, his government would consider working on the Olokola Free trade zone and an airport; pointing that it was the responsibility of his government to make available anything that guarantee that the investments within the state flourish.
Amosun, who said he was amazed at the gigantic nature of the new cement plant, expressed optimism that the plant would help develop the economy of the state and contribute to the execution of its agenda of job creation, especially for the youths.
He stated that the exploits of Alhaji Dangote in the manufacturing was a pointer to the fact that it was high time Nigeria shifted from oil to non-oil sector for development. He advised the Group’s President to help in the development of agriculture saying that an entrepreneur like Dangote would lead very well in the match towards the development of agriculture.
Governor Amosun said while his government was ready was ready to partner with the Dangote group, he urged that the management of the new cement plant should ensure indigenes of Ibese and other host communities are given employment up to the management level.
He urged that the plant management should be mindful of environment hazards posed by certain operations and therefore ensure that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is done to safe the communities of health
The Ogun State Chief Executive said his government would provide a land for the Dangote cement to use as trailer park so as to maintain peace as the trailers might constitute disturbance by parking indiscriminately on the road.
Also, the governor said he was aware of the security challenges in the state that his administration was battle ready to confront it headlong.
He disclosed that his government would need up to 100 Hilux buses for effective deployment of police to all nooks and crannies of the state and noted that when the time comes for assistance he would write the Dangote group for necessary assistance.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Forum of the fourteen Host Communities, Dr. Hezy Idowu, commended Dangote for putting the hitherto obscure communities into the world map with the establishment of the cement plant, pointing out that the joy of the communities knew no bounds.
“We, the host communities, have resolved to work towards providing conducive atmosphere for the plant to operate as its operation will transform the economic well being of the communities and their inhabitants.
“We are delighted to inform you that whenever difficulties arise, our communities usually rise to the occasion, joining forces with the conglomerate to resolve them. The point is that we are fully determined to cooperate fully with Dangote cement so as to solidify and consolidate this enviable success. Our prayer is that the Almighty God will continue to bless and protect Alhaji Dangote,” he added
