The Manager of Peace Mass Transport, Company, PMTC, Mararaba branch, Mr John Asogwa, has expressed support for the Federal Government’s decision to re-introduce toll gates on the nation’s highways, and called on Nigerians to support the move.
“The Federal Government knows the benefits of re-introducing the toll gates once again, so every well-meaning Nigerian should support it.”
According to Asogwa, PMTC was supporting the move provided the federal government would use the proceeds to fix the dilapidated federal roads across the country, especially those in the Southern parts of the country”.
He suggested that the government should also use the proceeds to establish cottage industries to provide employment opportunities to the teeming youths roaming the streets in the country, saying “government should not fumble again by allowing the toll collectors to feed fat and smile to the banks at the expense of the transport operators and the travelling public.
“Some of the junior clerks who issued tickets in the past were known to be operating fat bank accounts and building mansions. Such sharp practices should be closely checked in this renewed arrangement.
While appealing to government to bring down the toll fees whenever it comes into effect, Asogwa also called on transport operators to drive with care during the yuletide to prevent avoidable accidents.(NAN)
