Ogun State Police Command met with leaders of both Christian and Muslim Worshippers on Tuesday to checkmate and prevent possible Boko Haram attack on the religious worship centres in the South-West of the country, as being speculated.
NEXT reports that at the meeting, the police commissioner, Nicholas Nkemdeme encouraged the worship centres to always liaise with the command on regular basis to collectively train their internal security men and procurement of necessary gadgets required.
He emphasized that the meeting became necessary in view on the need to beef up security at their centres to forestall any insecurity particularly Boko Haram attack or insurgence, stressing that the meeting was called at the heels of the rumor and security intelligence reports which portend that the members of the Boko Haram sects are planning to extend their attacks to religious centres in the nation particularly in the south western part of the country.
Nkemdeme briefed them on many intelligence gatherings received and ways to tackle such insecurity alert, while many security strategies were fully discussed and possible ways of safe guarding the worship centres in Ogun State were put in place.
The Commissioner also advised the religious centres to form a forum where all of them will be meeting and germane security issues will be thoroughly deliberated upon.
The religious leaders and chief security officer, mostly retired police officers, who attended the security meeting applauded the zeal of the Commissioner in ensuring adequate security in Ogun State; and gained a lot from the initiative of the Command.
They promised to be more conscious and proactive by stimulating the managements of the centre for provision of required security parameters. The representatives of the centres also bought the idea of training of their security men on identification and detonation of bombs or IED (Improvised Explosive Devices).
